Road Tax

I find this a silly situation I find myself in at the moment. I taxed my car online at the dvla website on the 29th of november got the email sent confirming payment and references, On the email it said I have 5 days grace in which I could drive my car until the tax arrives through. I now cannot drive my car until I get this tax disc through the post I even called the police to check if it would be okay to drive the car if I carried proof of the payment for the disc but they said they would still fine me if I was caught

I now cannot commute to my work as the nearest bus train station is 3 miles away and the trains are not always on in this weather and I am getting even less days tax for my money.

Just seems unfair that there is so many people who drive without tax and yet I can't drive my car even though I have paid mine in full. :(

  • From being in this situation, and peaking to the police myself (a close friend of the family), they said if you have done it online, it should have gone through on the computers, so with this, if your car was to be checked for any reason by any of the concerning bodies, it would say you have taxed your car, and if you can prove this (with your proof of payment etc) you should be okay. All depends on if/when you get pulled and by who!
  • i'd just drive it as long as you've paid the tax. i doubt you're gonna get stopped and if you've paid in full and are just waiting for the disc then no court is going to fine you. if the police did so surely you would win any appeal.

i'd honestly just drive the car as normal.

Law states you MUST display a valid tax disc.

Buying it but not having it is neither here nor there.

They send your tax reminder up to 14 days before your tax expires. You had ample time to sort it out but you left it until the very end of the month, leaving one day on your current tax disc is asking for trouble.

Sorry if i sound harsh but common sense should tell you to get it sorted sooner than later.

  • Stuff happens. We're all human and fallible and things do occasionally get forgotten about even when they're important.

The "you should have sorted it earlier" comments are needless, the OP knows that it should have been sorted before and this isn't the question that's been asked.

Talking to the OP as if you're telling off a naughty child is unnecessary and unhelpful, everyone knows it should have been done earlier and was clearly a mistake.

    I'm not telling anyone off

If someone forgets to do something it's their own fault and no ones elses. Why should one person get grace and others not. Just because people choose to drive with no tax is their problem. If you've left it too late who's fault is that

I think thepolice have enough on their plate with broken down/abandoned cars etc to be worrying about that :)

You keep saying 'fault' over and over again as if the OP has claimed that it isn't their fault they they left it until the last day to tax their car, I'm not sure why you keep doing this when the OP has said no such thing.

Who's fault is it that they left one days grace ??

Yes we can all read the post the OP made and we all know what it says.

Of course it's the OP's fault that they left it until last minute. When has this ever been in dispute and when has anyone claimed that it isn't the OP's fault?

You seem to be continually bringing up the point that the OP is at fault for leaving it until the day before when this has never been an issue.

You keep answering a question about who is to blame that no one is asking.
