That's why I mentioned using the legal obligation for seeing the CCTV footage only after asking politely and being refused.
If at first they were not willing to allow viewing of the recording, I doubt very much if they would do much else (if anything) to help trace the package, especially if they think that one of their cashiers made an error.
I still think that if all else fails then you should insits that they supply a copy of the video.
Although as already mentioned, this won't be of any use if another customer picked up your goods, it might help if it shows the cashier doing something wrong.0 -

She didn't say there wasn't a manager there, she said THE manager wasn't there. The duty/deputy manager may not have the same authority to issue replacements as THE store manager.
Retail managers have lives too you know, the don't eat, sleep and live at the store every trading hour

The point being made though is two fold, you are only entitled to footage that includes you so firstly, dependant upon the angles (given the priority tends to be keeping an eye on staff at the tills not customers) that may include no footage at all, and secondly, if she can be seen on the footage, what she would be entitled to would be simply her time at the till, the not receiving of the item (which I don't believe anyone is disputing) and nothing more, so trying to force a point by going down that route achieves nothing as the footage should and would cut off before showing the next customer taking the item or a staff member clearing it (whatever happened)Bought, not Brought0 -
Just the other day I went through the self service checkouts at Sainsbury's and forgot to pick up one of my shopping bags! I'm going mental - I blame the cold weather!
Thankfully it was there waiting for me a customer services when I went back!0 -
I left a book on the self-service checkouts at Asda Coryton a few months back and only realised when I got home. Drove back and the member of staff supervising the self-service had put it aside when he noticed it.

The cashier making a error isn't that bad a thing for the manager, its means he can replace the item which if far better then explaining another customer has picked the item up, which will make his life easier? like said before its not unusual for things like this to have been moved back to the shelf when clearing an area, staff members forget to mention things that have been left behind when their shift finishes and they are going home.0 -

All deputy manger have the authority to do stuff like this. You don't need to talk to the Gm just the senior DM will do.
In fact a dm is more likely to sort it than a gm as the gm will just pass it onto one of his dm.0 -

My workplace has an 'amount' to which each manager can go up to for goodwill. My amount is higher than my deputy managers so if it was over a certain amount they would need to speak to me rather than the DM.
If it was higher than my amount I would need to clear it with area manager first.
Bit of a sweeping statement to suggest as you have that ALL deputy Managers have the authority. I don't recall the OP even naming the company....0
