P2Pers beware ... Tiscali sucks hardcore for P2P with most ports blocked.

Fine here, errr I would have thought ;) I bet if I ever tried doing that, I would get speeds of about 30-50k in peak times., and even if they did, it would take about 3 minutes to sort out.

Not that I have done any P2P

Wonder if Tiscali will allow operators like 1899 & 18185, & vice versa? I use them a lot for international calls, & 18185 for calling mobiles?

I know 1899 & 18185 can be used with TalkTalk, NTL, Telewest, Alpha & Onetel by using special numbers/codes. G

All line rental providers except BT can bar access to prefix-dial providers and, obviously, it is in their own interests to do so so they don't lose revenue.

In fact, it is known that Talk Talk have already done so but, as the most aggresive in the market, that's not surprising.

I would think Tiscali will write it into their T&Cs that they can bar such access and, if necessary, will do so.

Why doesn't OfCOM step in and make them all allow access to prefix numbers??
  • I need to keep my BT line...but have just switched to Tiscali £12.99/month for B.Band with free (to landline, excluding non geographic codes) evening and weekend calls.

I dont use the phone during the day as I'm out working - so looks like a no brainer to me.

I have only used the customer service department once, and despite being based in India, the response was spot on and immediate. they sent me a new modem & software FOC within 48 hours.

Whilst weekday daytime UK 01/02 calls might not be a problem for you (most on here use 18185 to get those for 4p each anyway), are you sure that the Tiscali package you've signed up for includes EVENING calls?

Tiscali don't appear to offer a broadband and calls package which only includes evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls. As far as I can see, they offer weekend or 'all' calls packages, but not E&W. In fact, the only package I can find at £12.99 (£9.99 for the first 3 months) is THIS ONE - which definitely only includes weekend UK 01/02 calls.

Definetely sounds good, and I can say there's no problems with Tiscali and P2P.

P2P progs such as Limewire get good speeds, and with torrents I get 300K down peak, usually 100-200K down on their 2MB service :)

(And before anyone moans, there are perfectly legit reasons for using P2P programs, which is all i use them for :) )

Heinz/all - My mistake - Its FREE WEEKEND calls only.
Its still fine with me as the 'calls' part of my BT Bill usually comes to arround £2 -£3 per month - and most of that is Saturday morning phone calls. other than that I use e.mail a fair amount as I find it more convenient.
