I've done about 5 cruises now and Fred Olsen, in my opinion, was dreadful. All the daytime entertainment was geared towards the older market (bingo, paper folding, napkin folding, lace making, flower arranging). The food was geared towards the elderly palate (mouse puddings, rice puddings, easy digestable foods). When sat on the sun deck, the average age was 80 and no offence, but I felt like I was in an old persons home. 3 people died while on the cruise and one slipped over and broke his foot (he was very doddery). I thought the rooms on the Black Watch needed an upgrade. All in all, if this was the first cruise I had been on, I wouldnt have done another one.

So far, I would say that the P&O ones have been my favourite.

It is down to each persons individual tastes.....plus.....no two cruises are the same, even on the same ship.

One time on Black Watch it was buzzing with folk who wanted a laugh and a dance....up until 3am in the disco etc etc.

Another time, it was full of people who were there simply to do the sightseeing and so they were up early.....dragging round all the trips, tired and all went to bed at 10.

    Each to their own really

We will be going with parents (who are nearly 80) so we think Fred Oldsen is ideal.
As LittleTinker says it's "each to their own".
There are a variety of cruises to choose from to suit all ages/tastes.
Some people little dressing up other people want to go casual all the time.
Some people like classical music, other like rock/pop and some just simply want to get p***ed on a stag/hen night.

My advice is research before you go and make sure you are getting the right one for your needs.

Well I am sat in the cyber cafe on the Oceana typing this and the average age is 43 (because there is only DW and myself present) :D:D
