OP, did you pay the whole months line rental? No, so why then should you have all the "benefits" that come with the whole months line rental? INstead of 200 mins you had 177. Not that much difference, and certainly not enough to make an issue out of it. The money you saved on the line rental probs covered the extra anyways.:A I love MSE!!! :A0

Did you not think of checking minutes available by dialling 150.0

what i mean isboyohboy wrote:I dont know what makes you think I used them up in a day, It was at the end of the period I had used 170 and thought I had 30 to go so went over my time. 30 min at X network rates can be a lot of money. I was just telling others watch out. I understand 3 and T mobile dont pull this trick.
200mins a month is about 6mins a day
they expect you to be using about 6mins a day
your pro-rata mins are worked out on that basis, if you were using that average amount of mins you wouldnt have gone over
150 would have told you at the point you thought u had 30 that you didntYes Your Dukeiness

I think those of you being sarcastic are being very unfair. I have been with Orange for years now and I find that the quality of the service is utterly dependant on WHO you get to speak to. It is certainly NOT consistent. I got to know one CS team leader who was utterly brilliant - always courteous and went more than the extra mile, so to speak but sadly he emigrated as he didn't enjoy the experience of working for a company who let SOME staff get away with poor CS. But thats common in many businesses. In boyohboy's case I also would not have thought to check the minutes in the first month and I've had a mobile pretty well since they became available so don't jump down people's throats. There may well, be others reading this thread who might also not fully realise you don't get a billing date that starts when your service starts. Why would you guess that?

Thank you flossy_splodge . I wish I had made my OP as well presented as that.
My main point all along was how would you know , and I was just trying to warn others .
Yes my post was a touch colourful, but I'd just got off the phone from the CS and was a little wound up. Yes I could have done my 30 times table and only spoken for 6mins a day , but I don't use my phone like that, and yes I should have rang 150 . I will next time, because now I know .I have no problem with pro rata because I understand they only charge you pro rata for that number of days ,but I come back to the fact I thought I had 200mins . I had reset my counter and would have worried about it as I got close.
I asked orange how would a new customer know their bill date and it would not be a month. I suggested a note with the Sim card , but was just told its in the terms and conditions. Now be honest, if you don't think there is a problem, would you all read the small print when you phone arrived . Thanks to all who posted , even if we don't agree.0 -

It still comes back to the problem that the network has no way of knowing which complainants have read the instructions or not, so will not voluntarily give free minutes away to someone that overuses then claims not to know.
A few minutes at the relevant call charges is not that expensive, and is notionally discounted by not paying pro-rata line rental for the period. The worst case is 23 minutes of calls less about 4 days ~ £5 if all the extra calls were mobiles, and pennies if landlines.0
