assuming as well to call judgements on, not a business mind there
  • Hubby is in the forces.
We live in service married quarters which we pay rent for.
When he joined up 20 years ago he was told that there would be no need to buy a house as he would always have a married quarter.
So because of this and a 14 year marriage and 3 kiddies later, there is no way that we can afford to buy a house when he comes out next year.
I work only 12 hours a week and hubby full time and with our combined wage, which is not alot, we will not be able to afford to buy a house.
When he comes out next year we will be made homeless, jobless and have to apply for a council house. Which we have no idea on how to do.
    What do we do?

did u not plan for when he was going to come out though ? or was it that he would get to keep the quarters after?
  • We never thought to plan for when he came out as no one predicted the house prices soring so high. You rent service married quaters and they belong to the MOD. So no chance of keeping them once your out. Mind you some of the married quarters we've lived in, you wouldn't want to keep!

This is rubbish. The OP provides no information where we can look up wages, house price and employment.

What we can do is look at the national average, and the conclude that the average house price is 6.5x the average mean full time male salary.

The only way a FTB can afford a house is to buy a house that is lower in standards compared to above generations in similar circumstance (35year old couple buying a one bed flat), or they take out a stupidly sized mortgage.

People in my office point out to priced out colleagues that they can afford, just go buy a flat a stupidly long commute away in a deprived high unempoyment area. The fact that they are in the top quartile of full time male earners does not matter, apparantly.
