I don't care what anyone says, aliEnRIK is MY hero.....!

I use my OWN time to help people on here with little to no knowledge of computers
If you feel im 'pathetic' for that then thats entirely upto you. But I feel those people I have helped (especially those that would have spent a lot of money to put right) might disagree

Egomaniac? If someone puts bad advice on here then ill respond as such. Following your awesome advice the OP might have run a few scans thinking everythings ok whilst in the background their bank accounts being emptied (Or whatever). If me trying to protect their bank accounts makes me an egomaniac then so be it. Personally I dont think it does.

aliEnRIK you are much appreciated for your work by a huge number of people that use this site. Thank you for all you do. Keep up the great work.

But hey. Youve made it quite clear where you stand to me, so ill leave you to dream your little dream

You are a most ignorant and obnoxious person. I merely suggested that there would be no loss to trying less drastic measures first. If anyone lives in dream world it is you. In your dream world you are god. In reality you are a pathetic, egomaniac and not worth the effort of further discourse.
The OP has their choices, the matter there is resolved. Any bickering is not to their benefit.[/QUOTE]

rik isnt ignorant or obnoxious, in fact hes 1 of the few who is helpful to people whether new or current members of the forum, he doesnt have to help but he does and he does it very well, hes helped me once or twice and im grateful for his help

It might be considered overkill by some, but to be on the safe side I'd back up any important data, format the drive and reinstall your OS.

I wouldn't consider it overkill at all. Its the only 100% way to be sure that no small little thing is left on system and that will give you piece of mind

There would be a loss if it didn't clear what was on there and the OP's bank account got cleared out. Better safe than sorry.

If it was me then I would wipe. Always wipe front to back though, apparently you can get problems doing it the other way.

But as I point out above, it really isn't '100%'.

I don't know how, but the flamewar in this thread totally passed me by. I only just noticed it.

If people want to be pedantic. You could remove the hardrive and blitz it THEN re partition and reformat it. Or you could repartition, reformat and use ccleaner or suchlike to destroy all other free space

However, that to me IS overkill

Why this thread has gone the way it has I really dont know. Some people need to get lives

It's an unmodded forum, so it's easy for threads to turn toxic.
We've seen it many times before. :)

    @ RIK
You stated your opinion in post #7.
Most users of this forum will value that. ;)

But if other people have other ideas then maybe it's best to just step back and leave them to it. :D

  • Being pedantic... CCleaner doesn't deal with MBRs or filetables. You would have to fdisk your way to victory instead.

There's a unix command for direct, raw data copying across LBAs, too. I can't remember if offhand, but I'm pretty sure that destroys partition data as well.

Or you could DBAN it, I suppose, but do you really need to do 36 random-data passes? Not unless you're Julian Assange.

    I agree with esuhl.

I think it's true that aliEnRIK can sometimes have a 'short' way with words that could possibly provoke some people but I don't think he deliberately tries to wind people up.

The help he provides on this forum is invaluable and, although I don't post often, I read this board several times each day and I would love to know the stats for number of people he has helped free of charge - I would hate to know how much these people would have paid accumulatively if they'd paid to get their computers fixed!

Let's stop the bickering and get back to the geeky, techie stuff - that's why people like me come here!! :D
The STATS for all posters are shown next to their names/avatars. Rik is the KING!
