I did not demand my car back. They found the fault. They removed the mechanism. They returned the car in an unroadworthy state. They didn't tell me.
You seem to be the font of all knowledge. Just imagine that I'm telling you the truth. Do you think that the garage's actions are acceptable?
Unless I am missing something here, you drove the car in an unroadworthy and therefore illegal state with one wiper ( out of two ).
This was after they told you that there was a fault with them.
Yet in your other thread you are trying to convince people that you are a safe driver.
Seems a bit troll like to me.0 -
At worst the OP was a little naive and perhaps somewhat ignorant with respect to the garages advice.
I don't think this gang rape is really necessary at all..... Lots of assumptions, twisting of words and general bullying when there's just no need for it.
OP you should have listened to the garage and digested what they had to say.
BUT I also think they should have offered a courtesy car knowing that yours was not road worthy.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

They did tell you- they phoned to say they needed a part! If my mech phoned me, I'd be reasonably careful with the part mentioned, and ask if it was working.
Wiper motors are funny, they can go, especially if they're used after a night of snow....
Usually the mech works on a pulley system, if they're stressed it pops off the spindle. In most cars I've had, the wiper mech is one unit...
Most garages have a set routine for services, wiper/motors aren't normally included, but based on the time of year/car condition, garages will normally check other areas.
Agree with Strider, you're getting a lot of rap here, some unneccessary. Best piece of advice is to listen and ask questions.0 -
Well, perhaps some of the responses are a bit over the top but OP asked if he had a case to refuse to pay and I think he has an answer although he wants to argue wirth everyone who disagrees with him. In my view the garage might have done a bit better/been clearer. They have acknowledged that and offered some recompense. I don't think they need offer more to meet the test of being reasonable.0

I am not arguing with anybody. I have stated a number of times what happened but some posters have not read, or do not want to read, what I wrote. Many posters have jumped to conclusions rather than asking me to clarify any points. Some posters have provided their opinion but most have not and some posters have provided an opinion based upon some assumptions that they have made that have no basis in reality.
Let me state the problem again with steps:
1. I booked a service
2. The garage collected the car
3. The garage phoned me to tell me that there was a problem with the wiper mechanism. They told me that they did not have the part.
4. I told them that I needed the car the next day.
5. They drove the car from the garage to my house with no wiper mechanism after performing the service.
6. Nobody from the garage at any time told me that the wiper mechanism had been removed from the vehicle.
7. My wife got in the car the next morning and engaged the wipers.
8. There was no wiper on the car so she could not drive it.
9. She missed a day at work as she could not take the kids to school.
At no point did my wife or I drive the car in an unroadworthy state. the garage driver did.
At no point did the garage inform me that they had removed the wiper mechanism.
Now, before anybody jumps all over me again, if I have missed something please ask.
I think that it is fair that I am recompensed for my wife being unable to go to work. That works out as more than the cost of the service.
if you do not agree then fair enough all I ask is that your opinion is based upon the facts.0 -
They were working before you they collected it right?
What have they said is actually wrong with the wiper motor? Did they say it didn't work before the car was dropped back to you?
I think they are a bit shoddy for doing this in fairness but couldn't your wife walk/train/bus the kids to school?
Life can carry on without cars, Like it did before they were invented
I'm not having a pop as i agree with what your saying but seriously the world doesn't stop if a car is not driveable. I think they should fit the new part for free but i don't think they owe your wife a day's wagesIf Adam and Eve were created first
.Does that mean we are all inbred0 -
The wipers were working when the garage picked up the car. All they told me was that the wiper mechanism was faulty and that it had to be replaced. They did not tell me that they had removed it. The car is still under warranty so it hasn't cost anything to have it done.
I do not live in a city. There is no bus or train and the school is much too far away to walk. Especially in the snow.
Thank you for your post, although I am still of the mind that I am within my rights not to pay.0
