Is the removal and replacement of a wiper motor part of a routine Service?

    No.

Was there a problem with tasks such as the oild and filter changes, checking of tyres and brakes?

    No.

Therefore the Service was done correctly.;)

If the removal of a wiper mechanism is not part of the service that the car was booked in for why did they do it?

Let's make it clear: I did not break the wiper blade mechanism. The wipers were working perfectly well before the car went to the garage. However, as a result of their actions my wife missed a day at work and my kids missed a day at school. I am asking to be compensated for that.

If you insist, the Service was done correctly. However, the garage did not provide the service that they agreed to. Therefore, I do not believe that I am liable to pay for it.

Subsequently, and as a direct result of their negligence during the service, they have to take the car for another two days to fix it.

"Hello, there is a fault with the wiper mechanism"

"Return the car, we'll bring it back"

    "Ok"

    Next morning...

"Damn why don't these wipers work."

To the reasonable man it was likely that the wipers wouldn't work on return of the vehicle.

Perhaps they carelessly expected you to understand that the wipers wouldn't work and you were negligent in not telling the wife.

The agreed to Service you car and they did. You authroised them to Service you car. End of.

The wipers are a separte issue.

Why did your kids have to miss a day of school?

Or perhaps Ithe reasonable man would expect to be told by the garage that they had removed his wiper mechanism and not returned the car to him in an unroadworthy state.

I would imagine the wipers could be a recent thing, very common to break them by not unsticking them from the windscreen before using them in cold weather.

Well if the nearside wiper motor wasn't working, it matters not if the garage put it back in or not does it?

Why did they return the car?

    Because you told them to.

You sound the sort that would have reported it stolen if they'd refused.

I don't think that you know me well enough to make accusations regarding my character. But thanks for the feedback.

I did not demand my car back. They found the fault. They removed the mechanism. They returned the car in an unroadworthy state. They didn't tell me.

You seem to be the font of all knowledge. Just imagine that I'm telling you the truth. Do you think that the garage's actions are acceptable?

Maybe the defective wipers were to blame for your crash.

I'd stuck to the bus mate.
