Remember whatever people say about your spends it is your choice of priorities that count not other peoples.

And she is spending £50 a day on childcare(super duper eco friendly organic nursery) I'd have done it for half that! But never mind!

See if they have any jobs?
  • It's £528 a year, but i've been looking at it in terms of, it's £5per week each...when i look at it spread over a year, that is more than half a grand!

Normalise every catagory to the annual cost, most people cant compare weekly monthly yearly in their heads.

Now what else costs £5 per week that you could do without.
I really should switch my laptop off..i will start doing it, i just hate loading the damned thing up the next morning.

    Look up hibernate and suspend

I use hibernate, same saving and much quick gettiing back to where you were because you can leave the windows where they were.

If your network is setup correctly you can even change locations without problems with many apps.

I will look into the hibernate setting on my laptop - thanks!

I need to try and save on phone contracts (again tied in) once the contract ends, £80pcm for 2 phones!!! Ridiculous!
Possibly try and cut down on the tv/internet/phone package, but unsure if i can get cheaper as i bartered already to £25 a month. I can but try...i need to do a new budget spreadsheet and really start writing everything down, as i know i miss things like parking costs and petrol off of it...

I have no childcare qualifications..NVQ's etc....also, even though i have a child, i'm only really good with him and my nephew...other children i seem to have no clue what to do with them (as silly as that sounds)
I'd love to be the manager of that place haha! I bet they make a fortune!

  • Years ago when my kids were small I worked 4 nights a week at a local hospital as an auxillary nurse, the money was good with opportunities to earn extra. My SIL worked nights in a biscuit factory to find the deposit on a house! There are ways and means of earning money if you look hard enough.

You probably spend your money on tat and just don't recognise it's tat and a waste. Only a strict spending diary and an SOA will identify what's really a need and what's a want.

    I need a drink: water
I want a coffee: jar of supermarket own brand instant coffee
Completely OTT waste: pop out for a Starbucks.

    What is an auxillary nurse?
There are a few factories local to me, i will find out about their hours and vacancies too. Thank you!

Hi, what kind of nappies are you using and how are you feeding your toddlerv(jars or home made)?! only reason I ask is that where alot of money can go...

where do you buy your clothes bar carboots? I find primark has stuff that is good and if you buy vests and pjs the size up they will always grow into them..

I know what you mean about the cooking thing and being tired but just try be strict with yourself and prepare the meal in the morning and just heat it later.

Do you have a credit union near you that you can save with they are good for lending too so if you were to save enough you could borrow three times or more on your share and paying it back you still have your shares as they were when you borrowed.

I have three kids altho currently on mat leave when I go back it will be work sat and sun so hubby is at home with the kids - needs must. hope you find something on the job front. (cleaning or ironing jobs near you?!)

there is probably other things I can't think of at the moment but hope this helps you a little at least..
  • Try not to get too disheartened at renting. My boyfriend and I were only able to afford a mortgage because his granny sold us the house cheaper than it was worth so we were able to get a 100% mortgage.
Save what you can and eventually you'll get there.

I did a programme (although I can't remember the website!) and it was an 11 week challenge of saving money. It was really helpful and opened my eyes to the things we spend money on. For instance if you bought a cup of coffee every morning for £2 it doesn't seem alot but is actually £728 a year!

It might be worth keeping a diary or notebook and write down absolutely everything that you spend, even if it's something small like a newspaper. You might find some trends that you could cut out.

My gas and electricity is £80 per month for both with scottish gas.
