Reward Chart

Options
I would like to use a reward chart, to encourage better behaviour.

Does anyone know where I can get a proper wall chart with stickers etc at a reasonable cost?

Thanks.

  • Hi,
As this is a money savers board, how about making your own!
and getting your children involved in the making of it might encourage them to stick to the rules!

One of my friends uses a reward chart for pocket money with her eldest daughter and every sunday they draw out a new one for the week and have catagories like....
Is bed room tidy? is Home work done? etc and she gets extra points for a helpful attitude and not winding up her younger siblings!
It seems to work! they only do it on a sheet of A4 with some felt tips but im sure you could make a reuseable one with a nice big bit of card and some cut out symbols with blu tac on the back.
nice and cheap too! (save the money for those rewards all this good behavior is going to cost you!)

make your own. perhaps using time of year incentives

i.e draw and cut out father christmas on a piece of card. get child to colour or paint it in. and on a large piece of paper draw a chimney and using(drawn) bricks to guide each level. when the child reaches the goal of getting father christmas to the top of the chimney then the reward can take place.
you can use it time and time again if you apply blue tack or velcro (costs about 20p) to the back of santa.

thats just an idea and i found that in my house my children are more eager to achieve because they've made something themselves

I made mine from stickers I bought from woolies that say well done, good boy, so clever, etc they were only £1 for 6 sheets, I got the stars from poundland and while I was there I bought a pack of 4 pvc large place mats that had a design on the front so turned them the other way, put lines across and down and the stickers on according to behaviour.
I love super nanny, think she is fantastic, we always do the behaviour chart if and when their behaviour (13/7) gets out of hand.
My 13 year old always complains about it but his competative streak to beat his brother and get more stars/smily faces, to put towards rewards kicks in and he cannot resist joining in!! xx

Make your own - child feels apart of the system?
    or

    Token Economy-
Take photos of rewards then cut the photo in half to start with. Reward the child with part of the photo when the photo is complete they get the reward.
When they get the hang of it cut into more pieces - i.e 4 pieces to the reward.

That is a really good idea!
I never thought of that before!

    Thanks :j
  • There a lots of free print outs you can get online by googling. I made one for my son to encourage him to use a potty at night time. It has 10 circles each joined by a wavy line and finished at a rocket. Everytime he has a dry bed he gets to put a star in the circle and when he reaches the rocket he gets a special treat! It has worked very well (apart from very first night when he got up 6 times overnight to squeeze out a pee as he was so desparate for a star - bless!) Actually he doesnt even care about the special treats he just loves getting a star!
Me debt free thanks to MSE :T

Have you got any odd rolls of wallpaper?

I made my DS out of some lining paper we had left over, got some stickers from tesco and it's now stuck on his wall.
It's a great incentive for kids, when my DS has a full row of stickers ie; for all week, then he gets a treat which he picks.
If everyone cared and nobody cried, if everyone loved and nobody lied, if everyone shared and swallowed their pride then we'd see the day when nobody died.

I've seen programs like supernanny and it doesn't necessarily have to be a chart - I've seen them put balls/stones in a jar and they could paint the stones etc with whatever picture they wanted.

I made one for my daughter with a border of all her favourite characters from Cbeebies and printed it off then I laminated it but you could just as easily put it in a plastic wallet. I used whiteboard pens to mark off the sections as it was easier to remove than stickers.
