Can someone enlighten me as i am confused.
I have just moved into my new build property and BT are coming tommorrow to connect me up. I know I am tied into BT for 12 months for line rental. Ther is no cableNTL fitted at the moment. My postcode isnt reading on computer databases yet. My partner wants sky tv and i have heard that you can have broadband with sky.
If we have the basic sky package can i have free broadband and then just pay BT for line rental. I can route my phone calls through talk talk or 1899 etc to get cheap calls.
what are my options
thanks
Louise

This is the info I know so far...
With SKY Broadband, its only 'Free' if you are connecting to an exchange that has been 'enabled' by SKY, this means that when SKY bought easynet last year some of their exchanges were changed over so that Easynets equipment was installed in the exchange..
when you have your telephone number, go to https://www.samknows.com and enter your telephone number there, it will tell you what exchange you are connecting to, and whether its easynet enabled, this means that you can get the free broadband from sky, though you'll have to join the queue and wait.. Else you'll have to pay for broadband like everyone else....
Others will come on here and give you more info am sure, thats just the basics I know. Shame you couldnt get cable, it does seem a much simpler package to work with....£4988 Lloyds TSB Mastercard
£400 O/D Lloyds TSB
£2650 Lloyds TSB Loan
£5070 Black Horse Finance
Skint, but I have a plan.... an MSE Plan!!!0 -
You dont even need to have a phone line now to get SKY.
However providing you can get Broadband from them you do need to have a phone line.Note however if you move your line rental to another supplier other then BT you wont be able to cps your calls to Talk Talk if you must
,and your probaly find calls to 1899 etc are barred. 0 -
thanks
so am i right in thinking that i will only be able to make calls through bt for a whole year and not route through onetel or the others providers.
also this broadband thing will prob not be in my area if i havent even got cable yet.
oh the woes of moving to a new build but my house is lovely
thanks

It is the BT exchange where the Sky/Easynet equipment is installed. If the equipment is in the exchange and BT can install your line you should be able to get broadband service from Sky even from your new house. The samknows site, should give you an idea, but it is not full proof. When I last checked the site said my exchange was not unbundled and no date was planned but according to sky it was and they were read to install the "free" service, same with TalkTalk, but it is better than most. The rollout of the LLU (that Sky etc use) seems to have accelerated in the last few months.
With Sky deal you are tied in for 1 year for tv package plus broadband. If your contract with BT requires you to stay a year, this should not prevent you from using 1899 or over cheaper services all these should be unbarred so long as you pay your line rental to BT. I don't think BT is allowed to bar the use of cheaper indirect service (although some the rules governing BT's pricing have been changed recently). What you will probably not be able to do is switch paying your line rental to someone else like TalkTalk. With the Sky broadband deal you continue to pay BT line rental, but you have the option of paying them £5 a month some local and national calls, this again may not be allowed by your BT contract.
If you or partner have never had Sky before, you could sign up via quidco.com and get £50, the t&c for this are quite strict, but you should qualify for £10 for signing up online if you are not eligible for the £50.0 -

You can cps your calls or use indirect access numbers if you are a BT Customer. Its only if you stop renting from BT that problems occur.
Follow the advice given here to keep your call costs down.;)
