Help ... again !!

I had a stovax stove installed over the summer. The installer found a problem (partical blockage) in the chimney and decided not to do anything about it. Fortunately he has now come and remedied the problem and put in a new liner as well.

However, i still have the same problem i.e. there are some kind of smoke/fumes in the room after reloading wood into the stove.

I can't see the smoke/fumes coming out when i reload it, but then when i stand up, you can smell it in the air.

It gives me a sore throat and a headache. i have 2 carbon monoxide detectors and they show nothing.

I had seasoned wood deliveerd in the summer and have had some of it stored in a warm area since then ... and when i use my moisture meter it only show 1% - 3%, so is definately dry !

The fire starts really easily and heats up well, but even after 3-4 hours of blazing away, I still get the same problem, but after that length of time, the flue is surely hot enough !!

Also, at the moment there is zero or virtually zero wind, so it can't be down draught.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to what might be causing the problem ??????? Otherwise my wood burning stove has been an expensive waste of time !!!!

  • Do you have an air vent in the room?

I have an open fire with a small-ish vent. If I forget to open it then I will get very similar symptoms to you which has occurred after adding secondary glazing which seals the room (the house is 300yrs old).

All is fine if the vent is open fully or the door is ajar.

    Hi Andy

The insaller is putting in a vent today. i have tried having the window opening slightly (I know, crazy with the current weather) and that didn't help. Therefore, not sure if a vent will make a difference, but its worth a try.
