I'm sorry only i didnt give you a comprehensive answer
I'm going onto a PAYG mobile phone from now on for my phone calls
replacing the BT home phone for my home
and I'm using the library for the web

    then its over to inactive

Fine, if that is more convenient for you and saves you money.

I havn't yet managed to find any Mobile PAYG that is cheaper than my landline, but feel free to share your supplier with us, so that we all may benefit.

Not Payg but this T-mobile SIM only 30 day contract via chitterchatter - £6 a month 100 minutes,100 texts and booster of unlimited landline calls takes some beating if you dont want a landline.

i've been using a free payg t-mobile sim with a £10 topup all this week
its not cost me a penny to use so far , not having to make calls
however bt's home phone has cost me ~£4.00 in rental charges for making no calls (price per week for their line rental cost)

this new method will do for me and in any emergency and i dont mind if the call is dearer on payg
on average it will save me personally money
plus i'm more relaxed that i'm free of one more private company contract in breach and i dont want BT in my home

if there are people like me out there , okay

    even better

None of that adds up, how can a £10 top up equate to not costing anything?

    £4 a week for line rental ?

Beware switching to BT. I had a contract with Primus that I have not renewed because of increased charges for Caller Display. Primus said I could keep my phone number, which I took from BT to them, but BT says I can't. I have been allocated a new number and will have to wait up to two weeks to get my old number back!!! The change of number means that my broadband supplier, PlusNet counts that as a house move and I will have to pay to have it reinstated on the old number, when and if I get it back. I am contacting Ofcom about this.
  • I've used otello and after emailing them lots , they helped me
so good luck with ofcom , persist and they will try to help out

Plusnet also will be charging £1.50 per month for people who decide to pay with a credit card or a debit card. That one has definitively BT's signature on it.
