Need to cancel sky - How?

Just phoned up to reduce my TV subscription charges (as agreed with them) and also give 30 days notice however they aren't taking calls today due to the weather etc so can't cancel or reduce my costs, have looked online and it seems they only take cancellations etc by phone. Do you know if I email them my cancellation they will action it or will I still need to call if/when they open up the call centre?

Clearly you can cancel your contract by an method you can record so mail, email or post is OK, no where does it say you HAVE to phone, they only WANT you to so they can convince you to stay, send recorded to:

Sky Subscribers Services Limited, Customer Care Department, PO Box 99, Kirton Campus, Livingston, West Lothian, EH54 7PR.

or use the online contact form once logged in on the website.

I wish they'd convince me to stay or even try to, tried ringing them 3 times today and no-one is interested in offering me anything to stay. I pay them £51 per month and am offering to take their BB and they won't offer me a thing:mad:

You can cancel by any method you like. Its not up to Sky. I cancelled in May this year by letter to their premises in Livingstone. Days after I posted it they phoned trying to talk me out of it but after 10 years of the dreadful service and poor programmes available I said no.
In my letter I told them I would be cancelling the direct debit on the 31st day which is what I did and heard no more from them.

I told them I needed to reduce my costs but didn't want to lose any of the package and would take the BB and home phone to take advantage of the sky anytime. They told me it would be another £19 on top of what I'm paying and would also need a HD box and which would end up costing me more!

With respect to negotiating you gave your hand away by saying you want to reduce costs but dont want to lose your current package selection. By saying that you want to keep all the channels you currently have tells them that you will stay regardless.

I recently rang and told them I was going to cancel as I had no way of recording the channels. They then offered me a new sky+HD box but I have to pay £15 installation. The way I went about it was not by telling them 'I dont want to lose any channels but I want a free box' I said 'I am leaving to get free sat because I can by a recordable free sat box' .

Assuming you havent agreed to any upgrade yet I would suggest ringing them back and hopefully get a different person. Request to speak to cancellations - Tell them that you wish to reduce your package to the lowest (£19 pm I think) as you keep missing programmes you want to watch as you cant record them. Maybe enquire how much the freesat through sky card costs etc. I think you may end up with a deal offered at that point. You can only try ! :-)

Also maybe try and tie in that you were reading that virgin do a tv and BB deal that sounds pretty good as you need to reduce costs and combining tv and BB sounds like a sensible idea also enquire which sky channels are available on virgin.

It sounds a bit cheeky/underhand but it seems this is the only way to get a deal out of them is to threaten to leave/reduce your package.

  • Don't know if this is the kind of offer you are after, but they offered me phone line rental at £5.50 per month (6 months) BB at £7.50 (12 months) free HD box and free installation free HD subs for 6 months. That's in addition to the £19 per month for TV. But I have decided to go with 50% off my TV subs for the next 6 months as I didn't want to sign up for another 12 months at the mo.
