  • the po claims service is a joke , ive had 8 claims through them , they have settled 4 , the rest "have gone missing" .

they admitted to me that they thought it strange that id had numerous claims ... without asking how many items i send or for what purpous

ebay of course and although i feel items may be lost or claimed to be lost by the buyer , its my right to claim , and its up to them to investigate

given the amount i spend the po should be ashamed of their service

Oh, I've had this too. Before the big shake-up, I never had any trouble. However, recently I sent a games console via Standard Parcels, with extra insurance to £150. It never arrived. I sent a claim form, and had to call them repeatedly to follow it up. They lost the first form I sent - fortuantely I had kept a photocopy. Then they supposedly sent forms to the recipient, but she never received them. I finally had to insist that they fax her the form, and let her fax it back. And in the end, months later, they paid compensation for the value of the item - but refused to refund my postage!

I was astonished that this is even legal - how on earth can they be allowed to take my money for a service, and then completely fail to provide that service - and yet refuse to give me my money back? Especially since I paid EXTRA money for full cover!

    Regarding Royal Mail claims:

    1. ALWAYS keep photocopies of the receipt, cert of posting and recorded slip (if recorded delivery was used).
    2. RM will pay the first £32 of the value of the item. I lost a £90 sat nav CD and they paid £32 (better than nothing I suppose)
    3. If you don't receive compensation from RM call them and complain. Get a name and post the copies of the claim to that person (obviously make copies of the copies!!)

I have had loads of stuff go missing and always had a payout from RM, but it is difficult to ascertain whether the person is pulling a fast one or not...
Don't blame me, it was like that when I got here!

I sold some tickets on EBay for £98.00. I very stupidly sent them only first Class (Not recorded or Special Delivery) but filled out a certificate of posting and they stamped it.
The buyer is claiming that a week after I sent it he has still not received the tickets.

Am I entitled to this £98.00 back form Royal Mail?

You are not entitled to anything (not even the £32 as suggested above) as Royal Mail class tickets as 'Valuable Mail' and only pay compensation for anything under this classification if you send it by Special Delivery.

"If you’re sending valuable items, we recommend you use one of our Special Delivery services. These receive special handling and are the only UK services we offer which provide compensation if you’re sending any of these items:

    * Current British and foreign bank notes and coins
    * Uncrossed postal orders
    * Uncrossed cheques and dividend warrants payable to the bearer
    * Any postage, revenue, National Insurance or savings stamps valid for use
    * Credit notes, coupons, vouchers, gift tokens, tickets or anything that can be exchanged for money, goods or services
    * Bearer securities, including share warrants, bonds or relative coupons and scrips or subscription certificates
    * Jewellery, precious stones and metals

We can’t offer compensation for any of these items if you send them by First Class mail, Second Class mail, Recorded Signed For or in a Standard Parcel."
  • They may say that but it's still worth a go, I got paid for some stamps they had lost recently. As previous messages have suggested, keep copies of forms and phone them to make a fuss if they say no.
