Amazon is easier to use than ebay but I am wondering what best to sell on there as I have been looking at things I have sold last few days and thinking I have made less than I thought - am being very dull I think but way I have worked it out is e.g. sold an item for £3.25, Amazon charged £2.03 p&p so customer paid £5.28 - from that Amazon took £1.71 as fees. Actual cost of p&p was £1.72 leaving 32p leeway on the p&p - I got paid £3.56 so that means I only actually made £1.84 - is that right?! Can someone experienced with Amazon explain to me in easy terms - just can't get my head around the figures!!! lol. Do you have to send things 1st class? If you send them 2nd does the p&p allowance go down accordingly or is customer still charged the same by Amazon?! Am wondering how I am going to make any decent money on it to be honest as selling a few books and other items here and there for a few quid is not getting me very far! What do you think are the best things to sell? I am intending to do a bootsale tomorrow am but it is absolutely freezing in S Wales, have turbolisted a few more things for ebay and put another item on amazon but is slow progress at the moment.0

Hi Everyone
I havnt had much time to update but I have been trying to keep up with reading the thread! I have been busy with the free bingo - about £30 there, selling items on ebay and cashback websites.
All the money I have been trying to make has been great however I have had to fork out for four new wheels for my car. Luckily my OH brother works in quickfit and managed to get us a very good deal.
Im going to update my sig and get back to it! Well done everyone for such a good start£707.70/ £11,000 - Make 11,000 in 2011 Challenge

Hi Victoria Plum
I only know about the book side of things. They charge the customers £2.80 at the moment. I always send out second class post and try to keep the items within the large letter measurements. That's quite thin. Other than that it goes as small packets 2nd class. I can see how you loose out if you're not careful.

Fruittea - I did the bird watch thing this morning, just after I put out their food and water, so got quite a few different birds, and an 'invasion' of about 25 starlings! Don't know what attracted them but they all swooped down, had a munch, then flew off together.
Long Tall Sally - Regarding the fees for Ebay and PP - PP fees come off when the payment from buyer hits your account,(they take about 4% on each transaction) and ebay send an invoice to you once a month, due at least 10 days later. Eg, my invoice is dated 15th of the month, but payment has not yet been taken out and this is the 29th! So what I do is once a batch of my items are sold and paid for I use the one off payment option and pay my fees off, then what's in my paypal account is my profit. Better that than withdrawing all the money from pp then realising you have ebay fees still to be paid! It does sometimes feel like you are losing a lot on fees, but the way I see it there is no other marketplace where your items get so much exposure, so it works for me. No matter what I list it usually sells, maybe not the first time I list but it all goes in the end. If your just selling off your old unwanted items, then it's tax free money, and that is always good!Sealed pot Challenge 2011 member No 1241 - Final total £154.21

Hales - I forgot to say, well done you on not smoking for a week, hope you can keep it up! I could save so much money if I gave it up, but that's for another day! And congratulations on your Bingo wins.Sealed pot Challenge 2011 member No 1241 - Final total £154.21

I'm not keeping up but I am trying.
Could someone tell me if the free listing of 100 items of 99p for newbies on ebay has a time limit?
Wanted to say many congratulations to hales on stopping smoking. I did last year & it's the best thing I did - well done you.0 -
