Hi,
I'm looking for a thermometer that I can install in my livingroom and monitor the temperature remotely - i.e. via Internet
anyone know of anything that would do this?
Thanks
Brian

Not sure if anything like that is available. The nearest i can think of is a max/min thermometer where the max temp is recorded and the min temp is recorded then when you come home you re set it and it reads the current temp and the cycle starts again.
Don't want to be intrusive but what is it for ,I'm intrigued0 -
Nothing exciting, in the middle of a complaint with the Housing Association regarding the cost of the heating - wet electric - victorian building conversion with high ceilings. It's costing us a fortune to heat the place and the rooms are always very cold. Our bills don't look terribly bad average £122 per month however thats because we sit with jackets on etc in cold rooms because we realise how big the bills will be if we were to try and heat it to 20/21C
Would like to show them a log of the temperature vs electric usage.0 -
Cheers. Wow they are big bills per month. I'm expecting this next big one around £250 mark per quarter.0

I'm sure there's an article in one of my linux mags.
I've played around with streaming remote sensor data over the net before, but I haven't tried the temperature sensor ones.
I'll have a look , see if I can find the article.0 -
A search for 'USB Thermometer' brought up a few items

You'd probably have to get a USB extension cable of reasonable length as well, since if it's plugged directly into the PC you're likely to get high readings because of the temperature of the computer.
Edit: not sure why my first link it censored, possibly the site isn't legit, so do shop around0 -
the easiest is a webcam pointing at a normal thermometer.
You do get ip based room thermometers (climate control monitor), we used them at work in our data centres. Much more than £500 though.0 -

It's expensive heating using electric, I don't think it's the most cost effective way to heat a home.
My electric bill is £105 a quarter but will probably have to rise to cover current usage and the price increases.
More than double mine. But I don't have that many electrical items on. The PC is the main one, electric blanket left on too long and a TV for short periods.Cheers. Wow they are big bills per month. I'm expecting this next big one around £250 mark per quarter.0 -
We have no gas mains so electric is really our only option. Its a flat so oil etc is no use - listed building so can't have pipes comming out or in to the building.
A webcam at a thermometer isn't really any use as I can't log the temperatures say every hour to give a graph of temerature in the flat and show how fast it cools when the heating is turned off.
I looked at a couple of the usb thermometers but it's not really any use long term or I need the laptop on 24/7. They also seem to be quite rare of stockists in the UK - I get nervous buying from Chine/HK etc
I even had a quick look at smart home supplies to see if they had a thermostat that would even incorporate the functionality.0
