NI the next scam of the century.

im only 27 and i have seen the age of pension entitlement jump a couple times and already hint to raise it by a year or more again..

in 40-50 years time a pensionable age might be around 80-90yo. with inflation the few£ a week going in will be meaningless at that age.

i think the reason NI increases and age increases is so the tony blairs, gordon browns can claim 20 times more then us from state pension and with either expenses and contacts get the private medical support they need to ensure they reach 90. leaving the rest of us on minimal pay to hope we will even see the likes of our 80th birthday.

MP's are already hiding their tax free wages in spain with their investor contacts will have trippled their money in 10 years. maybe the MP's should put some money into the pot of everyone that could not pay NI due to financial reasons. and not further hurt those that CANT pay.

i love how a £140k a year prime minister who has a car paid for by the state number10 already paid for in full, requiring expenses.

while us working classes are suppose to survive on minimum wage/benefits.

    long live the queen

National Insurance is not what it use to be, and wont be worth it in the future. but until then lets keep paying for gordon brown's botox injection for his 80th birthday

    rant over

I personally don't see a problem at all with the prime minister (i.e. the leader of the country) claiming expenses. Are you honestly suggesting he shouldn't? I know the MP expenses scandal was somewhat of a !!!! take but jesus christ.... calm down. I claim expenses from my company so what is wrong with the PM doing it. Especially as £140k isn't a spectacular amount of money for what he is doing.

Also, if you have the get up and go and gumption to get out of poverty then you can. The problem with this country is too many lazy, able bodied people thinking that everyone else owes them a living.

So how much should the PM be paid. I'd like to think that £142,500 plus expenses is a fair if anything underpaid role. I wouldn't do it for that much money. I have just realised that it's mitch161 posting. If you want a better job then get one if that job needs training then get that and get off your minimum wage. You could become self-employed earn no profit at all and get more in benefits than you currently do so I'm not sure why you don't do that. The expenses you can claim as self-employed are exactly the same as those claimed by the PM the rules are not different. NI isn't a scam it's a form of tax. Taxes pay your benefits. So are you saying that benefits are a scam?

They are for those of us who have never (and will probably never have to) claim them.

It's a bit older than that. The original pension age was set to ensure that most people would die before they claimed it.

Average male life expectancy at the time = 50-60.
    Pension age = 65.

I can't think if any reason why you wouldn't!

However if you sign off to start work, you can be entitled to into work payments, Job grants, housing benefit run ons? Course you'd have to tell them

I'm not too interested in telling them because I got the job off my own back, and it's a world away from what they would have me doing. Their attitude is take the first piece of &(*^ that comes along. "You must apply for any work you are capable of doing".
Why should they know, none of their business!

My case is pretty straightforward, I don't get housing benefit anyway, and if I didn't claim for travel-to-interview schemes I'm not going to bother with intowork payments.
  • i didnt say that NI is A scam.. im saying from the age increases they doing it WILL BE THE NEXT scam. meaning by the time we all reach retirement age it woulda rose so high we might only live 3 years after paying soo much into it.

i wish (the impossible dream) that honesty and fairness existed more. where politicians that only travel to london for 5 hours a week wouldnt claim a 2nd house mortgage. where they wouldnt ban smoking in buildings while continuing to smoke inside westminster for months after. where loafers got found out and the genuine job seekers got to the interview/got into employment alot faster.

but hey, its the country we live in

yes i agree when footballers get paid lots more for 90minutes of running around on grass a week. compared to primeministers full time job for his wage is unfair.

but to the same point in 'poverty britain' saying they need to reduce income of those that need it while people that can afford luxury holidays get expense accounts seems hypocritical.

i do believe that something needs to change to the benefit system to stop people from just living on benefits, such as allowing them to do voluntary work or apprentiships/training for work. and decrease payments for those that dont turn up etc.

but treating someone who is really trying the same as loafers is unfair. some loafers say they apply but never bother. id love it if potential employers could automatically be emailed contact details of potential candidates and arrange 1 day at job centre to interview every candidate. Xfactor style..

loafers would soon get !!!!ed off with having to get off sofa as its manditory to attend. where as us actively seeking jobs would love it as we'd actually get to the interview stage rather then no responses from applications

but now back to topic OP goodluck with new job.

My mum was saying, and I'm 29, that I may end up with no state pension the way things are going. I can't imagine working passed 70, my state pension age is 68.

OP - Do I need to top up NI
2010-2011 you need to have £5,044 or more of such earnings
  • No, you don't have to tell them why you signed off. Just don't attend your next signing day and they will close your claim automatically within 5 working days.

But' you will miss out on National Insurance Payments if you are not working, and this will affect your entitlement to a state pension and contribution based JSA in years to come.

You are under no obligation whatsoever to tell them why you want to Sign off. "It is none of their Business". As long as you tell them the last day you want to stop claiming.
