Dora_the_Explorer wrote:We have a family M&S women's nightshirt we think was bought in the early '70s which has been worn every winter is now on its 5th owner! It's becoming a joke and we're thinking about recommending the fabric to NASA.
This has had me PMSL cos it reminds me of a red bri-nylon t shirt with a plastic tortoise appliqued to the front that I had as a kid. That fabric is a wonder to modern sience cos it is impossible to grow out of it. Our holiday snaps chronicle me wearing it from age 4 to about 16. LOL The later albums then catalogue three of my cousins also putting it to good service. From Lands End to Cleethorpes it's been on more holidays than Judith Charmers.Life's a beach! Ah but MATH - did you have the nylon wide legged pants (high waisted of course) that also went with them. We have pics of us as kids wearing them - my mum dressed us the same so when I grew out of them, I had 2 younger sisters who got to grow into them :rotfl:
However, I'm currently sat next to Mr TM's RAF greatcoat which hangs on the back of this door. It's quite new - 1964. My ammo boots are positively new by comparison - 1975 - I wear them to do heavy work in the garden.
I still wear my uni and training school sweatshirts, which come out only when I decorate now. (Blimey that makes the uni one 25 years old - gulp) I have to say that my 80's bolero jacketed suits and shoulder pads have gone to that great charity shop in the sky (ok, Watford then) However, I have recently been given a cashmere coat that is too small for my mum - which deffo needs altering because I couldn't possibly be seen out in something that would be more use on an American football field
I reckon it's circa 1985, but she assures me it's not. Must go through some old photos to check....

The oldest item I can honestly say I still wear is my black suede Goth boots with bat-shaped buckles. I bought them in 1989 and they are frankly dilapidated but I've never found anything good enough to replace them. Sadly now I'm dilapidated too so I doubt I'll wear them again
My leather bikers jacket is the same vintage and about 5 sizes too small, but my son has inherited it
In the back of the wardrobe is a vintage frock coat (possibly Edwardian) and a 1970's Biba jacket, but no-one wears them any more.0 -
I can't remember exactly when I got my red Dunlop wellies, but it was probably about 1984 (from my Grattan catalogue). They're still going strong, as are the fleecy insoles I added to them a couple of years later.0

I have a short-sleeved lacy crochet top that comes out in summer. It was probably made in about 1989-90. I used to wear it with a 'body' under it, you know the ones with the poppers underneath? I don't have the 'body' any more, or for that matter, the body, but the crochet top gets an outing every summer.
OH has some very old underpants that his mother bought for him, but let's not go there!Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

My daughter wears a vest T-Shirt I bought in 1972. She has also worn a sequinned boob tube dress which is about the same age. Unfortunately, they no longer fit me - they must have shrunk !0

I have an M & S red twinset, age unknown as I bought it from a jumble sale 10 years ago, I've darned it round the cuffs in a couple of places. My oldest 'new' item is a red blouse given to me as a 40th bday gift, I'mm 55 this year. And please keep this one a secret, I have 2 pairs of lacey niks, 1 red pair & 1 purple pair, bought as sets with matching bras, bought from the Co-op after I had my first baby, he's 29 this year!!

:rotfl: Like Denim and Blue Stratos what ever happened to them.

I still have a bottle of Denim that was my late husbands , he died in 2003 and my eldest daughter bought it for him about 6 months before that. She found it in a chemist's that was closing down and knew that it was her Dad's favourite. When I'm feeling a bit down and missing him I have a sniff of the bottle and it's as though he is still around. Both of my daughter's do the same, as to them Denim is their Dad:think:
By the way my youngest daughter has always said that whenever she smells Windolene it reminds her of me ? a lasting tribute to the smell of window-cleaning when she was a little girl:eek:0
