BT Being charged just for dialling a number

My husband has free calls on his mobile.
In a moneysaving venture, if he is say at the shop and I want something I dial hos mobile number and it rings once or twice. Missed call.
Then he rings me back.

I have been charged each time for this by BT.

They say because the exchange attempts to make the connection I am charged and because his number is present on the bill I am obviously connecting.

He does not even take the phone out of his pocket until it continues to ring signifying somebody else.

How can I be charged for just dialling a number and it ringing.
I said its ludicrous, I thought I was charged for if a call was dialled and recipient connected the call.
I said I pay line rental for the service provided by BT, I cannot see how they can charge for the intention of connecting.

Are they in the right whether immoral or not or am I being charged wrongly, anybody with a difinitive here?

I would say they are very wrong, how many times has your phone rang and you were too late to pick up and/or you have rang someone and got no answer, if they are charging for this then something isn't right.

As I understand it the charge is for connecting to the other "mobile" network, not for actually connecting to the mobile itself - its different if you are ringing a landline.
I've noticed that I get charged by 18185 for unanswered calls to mobiles in the past and that was the answer I was given then.

It is the mobile providers and Europe you should be addressing this question to, not BT. Complain about them.

Is it Kim, thats what I asked BT, I said is it you or Orange the guy said the exchange is doing it. If its the mobiles and Europe BT are still charging me unfairly

I use 18185 and if its the same thats still grossly unfair but at least they are cheaper. I got charged 42p thats higher than if I had spoken to him.
I want Martin or Watchdog to take this up with Offcom or somebody.
    Its robbery?

I will complain but BT are passing on to customers and not letting you know, that's got to be wrong.
The manageress at BT just rang said its got to be a fault as we do not charged for a missed call, but they clearly do, so she will change that when she rings back.

This is what happens when you phone a mobile from a landline.

Maybe the answer is to get yourself a cheap PAYG mobile on the same network as OH's and make your missed calls from that (afaik this wouldn't result in a charge). Depending on the network, there are some really cheap deals around at the moment, from as low as 99p (do a search on MSE, I'm sure I've seen something on here)

Is the 18185 charge less for this ripoff that BT?
I use 18185 for all calls even on cheap rate as its still cheaper, but a missed call I never expected that a phone ringing twice in somebodys pocket cost me...shocked!

If the manageress said it is wrong, did you get her name, if so get back on to them and say who you spoke to and she said it was wrong, it wants sorting out, I never knew you got charged for a missed call.

Next you will be getting a bill for not using it at all, they will say, 'Ah, but you could have done.'
