You will need to copy it off of the CD before renaming it ... I'm guessing that's where you are going wrong here.

Either drag the file to the new location, or right click it and select copy ... then right click and select paste at the new location.
  • I'm not getting anywhere fast, I have tried dragging the spools from the cd to system 32 but still does not work, when you click on system 32 you get loads of files/folders should it be going directly to on of those?
I know what you are saying is correct ( I have seen the exact same advice else where and it worked for them) but i think its me that is doing something wrong.
you say copy off cd to new location? somewhere like word pad do you mean?
I'm not sure i'm dragging things to the right place as it is not working
I do appriciate all your time today

Firstly try to drag the file from the CD to your desktop.

Once it's there left click it once and press F2, this will allow you to rename it to "SPOOLSV.exe".

You now need top copy this "SPOOLSV.exe" file from your desktop to the "C:\WINDOWS\system32" folder. To do this press the "Windows Key + E" and type "C:\WINDOWS\system32" into the address bar at the top of the window.

Now move and size the window so that you can see both the window and the "SPOOLSV.exe" file on your desktop. Drag the "SPOOLSV.exe" file to the window with the "C:\WINDOWS\system32" folder and release. This should copy it over.

Let me know how you get on with this. I know it sounds simple but things like that can be a total pain for less experienced users, I totally understand.
  • I have managed to get it on the desk top and renamed, I have found the folder ( at least I think the right one lol) and dragged the file to it and then went back to the first instruction and it still says the file cannot be found!!!!
I tried copy and paste from the desktop to the folder but still the same thing happens, I'm going to have my lunch now. :(
    Thanks
ps when i go to do windows key and e there isn't anywhere to type in as no address bar at the top but I can find a folder that says system 32, should it be dragged to there or open the folder first?

If you drag it on to the system 32 folder icon it should add it to the folder.
  • thats what I did but then going back to your first step it still says it cannot find the file?

Thank you for all your time today
