Print Spooler problems

Hi,

A few weeks ago after a lot of help on here to get rid of viruses on my computer, when I next went to use my printer it wouldn't work, it says the print spooler service is not working.
If you try to print it says a printer is not installed do you want to to install one, you say yes then it says it cant complete as the spooler service is not running?

Can any one please help?

Open the services dialogue by selecting Start > Run and type "services.msc" into the box.

This will open a list of the currently running windows services.

Look for "Print Spooler" in the services list.
Right click "Print Spooler" and choose properties.
Set its properties to automatic and click start.
    Attempt to install printer again.

    ...

If this doesn't work you could try checking out the following Microsoft help page: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/printing_problems

This provides a diagnostic tool which maybe able to sort your issue.
  • Hi
Thanks, have tried the first step, when you click start it says:
Could not start the spooler service on the local computer
error 2 The system cannot find the file specified

Just off to try the other advice

Just tried but it says:We're sorry, but the diagnostic solution you have requested is not available at this time.

    Typical

Do you have your Windows CD?

From the windows CD, find and copy SPOOLSV.EXE to C:\WINDOWS\system32. Make sure the extension is exe (you might have to left click the file and add the last e), double click it.

Now try step one from my first post again.

Try the disk with operating system first. When inserted cancel any install or dialogues which pop open and browse the disk looking for the file.

Press your "Windows Key + E" which should open a folder browser for you. Either type the value "C:\WINDOWS\system32" into the address bar field at the top of the window or click through the C: and folders until you get there.

Once opened drag your "SPOOLSV.EXE" into the folder and double click.
  • I cant change it to exe rather than ex when I left click it, it does nothing if i double click it it says it cannot open it

Sorry my bad ... left click it to select it and press F2 to rename. You should now be able to change it to ".exe".
