probable redundancy

  • It's always going to be a headspin! I was told I was being made redundant the day after getting back from a long weekend! I have landed on my feet and found another job, although I do have a two hour commute now! Keep you're chin up, like you say, health is foremost!
  • Just thought I would update as people were so helpful and kind.
I was made redundant, in the end I had 10 minutes notice to say bye to everyone! They said I could come in the next day if I wanted but that I wouldn't be paid for it, and I didn't really want to work there for free knowing that I was going anyway!!
Since then I have been trying really hard to find a job- any job. Have to say it's been a lot harder than I thought. Applied for loads and heard little to nothing back. However, I have always wanted to work around animals so last week I decided just to check out some local vets for jobs and I spotted a job in a vets as a HR assistant. I was fairly sure I wouldn't get it as have no HR experience but applied anyway and when I got the rejection e-mail as expected, I asked them to keep me in mind for anything else which came up. The manager e-mailed me to say there may be a f/t reception job soon and was I interested. I said yes and had a phonecall today asking if I'm still interested and she said she will be in touch soon to arrange an interview.
Sorry this is such a long post, but I feel like I've finally got a bit of hope. I was starting to get very down but I've realised I just have to keep busy!
  • That's fantastic news!:T Good luck with the interview! I'm facing redundancy myself and you're right. It really is more difficult to get another job that quickly and easily at the moment. I've been really surprised by the lack of suitable employment and wrongly thought, like you, that I would have no problem finding another job. However, I too have been trying to see the silver lining and am thinking of starting up my own business which I've always wanted to do. Now I may get the push to do it that I've always needed.

I always remind myself that the chinese symbol for crisis means 'sudden danger' and 'hidden opportunity'!

    All the best!
  • good to hear! Keep positive.

  • Thank you and good luck sloganjerry with the business! Might turn out to be the best thing that's ever happened to you.

I've got the interview for the vets on Monday, a lot quicker than I thought! Thing is, I had a phonecall today to go for an interview for another job I've gone for, they want to interview me tomorrow. I've said yes but in all honesty the vets job is the one I really really want, but I'm thinking it would be crazy not to go to the other interview as obviously there's no guarantee I'll get the vets job is there?
and thank you googlewhacker as well!
  • goto both, as you say you have no guarantees on either and you could end up being offered both and being able to choose, offered one and taking that one or not being offered either.
