Broadband without phone line?

Hi, moving into a rented flat soon near the centre of Belfast, there is no phone line currently there and to be honest I don't really want one as BT have screwed me over too many times in the past! Wondering if anyone knows any good suppliers of broadband that don't need phone lines? Preferably these would be available on 6 month or rolling contracts.
Thanks!

I cancelled my BT landline and am managing very well with a cheap PAYG mobile phone and mobile broadband. I use the 3 network dongles with a prepaid allowance to avoid contracts. This would be no use to someone who downloads films and music or plays games and it is really fast dialup. You could try this option to see what the signal strength and speed are like.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Virgin Media would be about the only one in Belfast. If it's one of the new builds or renovations, most of them are pre wired for VM.Where about's is it? I know all the ones on Ormoue Rd by the Gasworks are cabled.0

Do you use the 3 network dongle when you're travelling?
I'm looking for a PAYG dongle for occasional use and came across 3's deal (£80 for 12GB valid for 12 months), but I've heard their coverage isn't as good a Orange, O2 or Vodafone.0 -

How do you think the signal is going to reach your PC then? You can't have ADSL broadband without a BT phone line and paying line rental-the only other options are VM cable (if available) or mobile broadband (too slow and expensive for most).
If you don't like BT then use another provider to install the line-there are dozens to choose from. AFAIK only the PO do monthly contracts for line rental though-all the others are 12m minimum. You can't expect a cheap llne provision if you only want a 30 day contract. No free lunch, and no free laptop

To answer a question, I have taken my 3 network dongle with me while travelling and it was very useful. Larger towns are the best places for good coverage, but it is best to be upstairs by a window and keep the dongle on a lead as opposed to plugged directly into a laptop.
It is actually faster than the free WiFi in my local library much of the time.
It is possible to buy a prepaid allowance of 1gb or 3gb that will last for 30/90 days max. just to see what the service is like.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

You need a phoneline for ADSL, but you don't need BT - TalkTalk can install lines. Most ADSL broadband providers sit on top of a BT line.0
