Does anyone have NPower boiler cover.

my boiler cover is with British Gas however I also pay a few extra quidfor drains and radiators, my monthly cost includes parts and labour.

Now i am with NPower and ive just seen a commercial about their cover but the ad does not say the cost and compared to British Gas is there any differance? I know you get a reduction after 12 months free of call outs.

so is anyone with NP with this boiler cover and what does it cost compared to BG.

Go to NPower website. Full details there.

I've been thinking about it too. The biggest problem with a boiler breakdown is unavailability, plumbers being almost impossible to get hold of at this time of year. At least with this, a turnout should be guaranteed.

You could also look at Domestic & General.

ive been with BG boiler cover for several years and they do a yearly check but they also do a hard sell, wanting to sell you this and that, for example a carbon monoxide detector for £25, i bought the exact sameone on ebay for a tenner. They also are trying to sell me a magner?? something for £250 fitted but a local plumber will do it for £150, the filter only costs £70.

I wouldnt mind swapping over, AA do one but parts are not included.

i was just hoping another MSE member already had the NPower cover

Complete waste of money. If you have your boiler serviced annually (about £75) by a local recommended GSR RGI then it's not likely to break down when you most need it, and you'll save a load of money, Most of the time the big service contractors can't get out any quicker than the independents. They will exclude same day response on weekends, bank holidays and 'times of high demand' anyway (i.e. winter), so they're pointless in that respect.

Just taken out boiler and heating cover with NP for £15 a month. This includes an annual service - they value at £74.

    BG is £17 a month I think.

I doubt if it matters who you are with at this time of year as everyone must be so busy but the reason I took it out is our thermostat broke within 2 1/2 years of being new and would have cost over a £100 to replace had we not been covered by Homeserve at the time so I think its worth it.

Beware of the slightly lower cost insurances that charge you a £50 per call out charge though.

Also NP £12.60 cashback through TCB remember.

No it's not. A thermostat costs about £20. Replacing it is a 10 min job, so an electrician would charge you no more than £40 I guess. So £60 all in. but let's say £75.
You are paying £180 every year (so minus the service that's £105) whether you have a call out or not. If the boiler is serviced annually and is a half decent brand, then it shouldn't need a call out anyway. And if it does, you'll find that NP's contractor will not get there any quicker than a local RGI would.

I had boiler cover with Domestic & General for several years and was very glad of it. I called them out about 5 times in 3 years. The boiler was fairly new and serviced regularly.

On each occasion, a fitter was sent and turned up promptly. On one occasion, demand was so heavy we had to wait for 3 days, but that was when people without cover could get no-one for weeks.

Thus, although I am aware of the how the costs pan out, it's not all about money. Availability is more of an issue. Firms that take a retainer from the insurance company are required to turn out, no excuses.

They have a very bad reputation. I have come across several examples of BG fitters falsely declaring appliances to be unsafe in order to make a sale.
