I have a contract with vodafone but really dislike the phone.
Since VAT is rising by 2.5% and my price plan will go up in price, can i terminate the contract now? I've heard of it happening to people on 3 and Orange in the past being able to cancel early with no fee because of price increase or changes to the contract.
Thought id ask even if it is a longshot!
I appreciate any answers

You were right, it is a longshot, sorry
but nice try:D
(i think you probably heard wrong)
Can you sell the phone and pay off the contract with the proceeds?make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I knew it was....i guess il stick with it!
In another forum there was a whole thread explaining about how 3 was changing something in their contract that meant if you wanted to cancel you could. It also happened with tmobile a few years back when they changed thier price plans. In the small print it explains if the price increases by a certain percent then you can terminate the contract. It also happened with orange. But i guess maybe its different when its with vat?0 -

You charged for the service Ex VAT, and it's collected by (in this case) vodafone on HMRC behalf.
It's not a charge for the service it's a goverment change, so theres no way out for a VAT change. Will be the same across all networks.
Vodafone can increase the cost by up to the retail price index without it triggereing any get out clauses. The Three changes are the removal of Orange coverage so many people have no coverage. reading the contract the state that if your outside Threes coverage area you will not get service and have no right to cancel but they are actually being very generous letting people cancel.0 -
Hi kristymarie,
Thanks for your query.
As gjchester stated in their post, the rise in VAT is not a price change from Vodafone, it is going to be increased on everything you pay tax on.
If you have taken a phone on contract with us and you don't like it, we give you a seven day return period when you first take it out. So if you are outside of those first seven days, we will not be able to exchange it unfortunately. If you wanted to cancel the contract early, you would need to pay a disconnection fee.
Regards,
Heidi
