advice for sky set up please

I have a sky+ hd box downstairs, today i got another cable fitted to bedroom upstairs (from main sky box downstairs) with magic eye on it to enable me to watch sky upstairs. Tv upstairs is also an hd tv but without box no hd picture is available. Question is could i buy another sky+ hd box and just use it as a freeview box upstairs (so i can connect a hdmi cable), also would i be able to just use the "av" option on tv remote to switch between sky (via magic eye) and the freeview box i am wanting to set up? Hope this makes sense and thanks in advance for any help.

No, a Sky box would need feeds directly from the dish not from the RF out on the main Sky box.

To get freeview HD you would need a freeview HD stb and have an aerial plugged into the main Sky box that is aligned to a transmitter that is already transmitting HD channels.
  • ok think i understand! I'd need another cable running from my dish?
  • and i forgot to ask if i took the cable that runs into the magic eye and put that into a hd box would it work then?

NO....You need a seperate feed from the Sky dish for each & every Sky box in the house,TWO if it's HD.
You cannot run a Sky box from any other source.
