Who's cutting down their Christmas card list this year?

  • Where I work we essentially have 3 large offices and that covers pretty much all the staff I work with on a daily / regular basis. This would have been about 30 plus staff to write cards. With the costs of cards etc and time etc this year I just got three boxes of chocolate when they were on offer (£4 a tine of quality street) and wrote one card for the office to go with them.

Not massively cheaper but have been more appreciated (well the blokes in the office have loved it!). Also saved me time and that embarrassing moment when you forget someone lol!

With the cost of postage rising every year, I'm wondering how many people are being forced to cut out or reduce their Christmas card list this year.

I'm endeavouring to send as many of my greetings as possible by e-mail, especially for overseas friends where postage costs are now horrendous, but I do feel rather guilty that this seems to be diminishing the real spirit of Christmas. However, I'd rather donate to a local charity than spend what is now a huge fortune on postage costs, as I think this will do more good.

    What are you all doing?

    Hi Primrose,

I'm in two minds whether to make mine, or buy them online. So far undecided! Mainly down to cost, and both seem reasonable.

Whilst looking on the web, I've found a few websites that offer a charity donation as part of your order. So the cost is still the same to you, but the company donates on your behalf. Sounds like it could be suitable for you?

    :)

We have cut down a wee bit but I do like to send them (hate receiving them though strangely enough!).

I usually hand deliver them but for one reason or another this year I am going to use the Scout post for local-ish cards. It is only 25p per stamp compared to 60p for Royal Mail and helps out the Scouts too. Might be worth seeing if your areas run something similar if you are looking to reduce postage costs :)

Scout post? What's that? Sounds fab!

no im not. I bought some stamps before they went up?
    :footie:
  • I will send roughly the same as usual. Though I do go through my list each year & remove people that I really have lost touch with (or who didn't send me one last year!)

I bought stamps before the price hike & I have some free ones from the RM surveys. I always buy multipacks of cards when reduced in January so they don't cost much.

I like to send & receive them. I usually put them up on the bannisters in the hall, so they form part of my decorations, I'd hate it if everyone gave up sending them. But I do think postage has got so high that I can understand cutting down.

An email just isn't the same somehow. My hallway would be so bare if everyone did that!
