Who's cutting down their Christmas card list this year?

With the cost of postage rising every year, I'm wondering how many people are being forced to cut out or reduce their Christmas card list this year.
I'm endeavouring to send as many of my greetings as possible by e-mail, especially for overseas friends where postage costs are now horrendous, but I do feel rather guilty that this seems to be diminishing the real spirit of Christmas. However, I'd rather donate to a local charity than spend what is now a huge fortune on postage costs, as I think this will do more good.
What are you all doing?

I did it last year and sent a cheque to charity instead." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

I'm sending a few more cards than usual.
We usually spend December and January tearing up and down the motorway visiting all our friends and family, cramming as much socialising in as possible. And while it's nice to see everyone it's really tiring (too much of a good thing) and very expensive. So some people are just getting a card this time round, but I am sending "real" cards, I will also wish them "merry Christmas" via email but when I'm not seeing someone I just think it's nice to send a "proper" card. Same reason I send actual cards to my friends abroad, we spend all year emailing each other so it's nice to go through the process of traipsing to the post office and sending them a nice handwritten greeting.0 -
I only send to those to whom I can't say 'Merry Christmas' personally before Christmas.
For companies, some charities do a 'share a card' campaign where you make a donation and sign the card, instead of sending individual ones to each other at work - for those who worry about not reciprocating in the card giving this is a really good idea.0 -
another way tolook at it is: keeping some people in a job, even just a temporary one, (RM take on loads of temps in the run up to christmas as the machines cant read the address'!)
I hate paying postage costs at the best of times, but i do try for christmas and birthdays.Living Simply, not simply living.Weight Loss - 5b/55lb

Well we're cutting back this year...We were going to have a sort of so many strikes and your out policy in that if they didnt' send us a card back twice we wouldn't bother anymore but i think we're now going to cut a few people out we know who haven't really bothered before...
Though having said that with the Royal Mail so badly up the creek at the moment i'm wondering why i'm bothering as they won't get them till January...:rotfl:0 -

My list varies slightly from year to year, but I'm not having a major cull

I'll move this to the Christmas Board later.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -

I prioritise sending cards overseas over giving them to friends in the UK! I have quite a few friends overseas as I've done Camp America. If I receive a card/letter from overseas I am always so touched that the person has made an effort to post it rather than email. I still send postcards from holidays too.
I will be sending less cards this year than in previous years as I work with less people. I used to work in civil service in a building with 1000+ people, I would send up to 100 cards then! But now I work for a charity with just 10 people so that has cut my list down dramatically!
