I paid a large amount of money (over £2000 for made to measure curtains in my living room. The owner of the shop came and measured up, gave me a price and I paid for them. However they have now been fitted and neither pair meet in the middle. One pair was supposed to be wall to wall and there is about 2inches gap in the middle at the top. The other pair were made for a bay and there is about 1/2 inch gap at the top.
The shop owner says that I will have to have the pole shortened on the wall to wall curtains or pay to have another 1/2 a width added.
Am I right in saying that I paid for wall to wall correctly fitted curtains and that she should be liable for the extra cost as she measured in the first place.
Thanks for any advice.

Since they measured up it's then their responsibility to make sure the curtains are made to the correct measurement. If they get it wrong it's definitely not your problem! They can either come back with the correct sized curtains, or they can refund you - they are the only two choices I would give them!
I wouldn't be happy with extensions either as won't they affect the look of the curtains?0 -
Agreed- made to measure should be exactly that, especially if the company has measured themselves! If you wanted ill fitting curtains then you could have bought them off the shelf.0

Thanks for your replies.
Shopowner is coming out on Wednesday to see what she can do. If I'm not happy I will ask for a refund.0 -
Make sure that you take photos of the curtains hanging at your windows before the visit. Also, keep hold of any paperwork, receipts, contract etc etc. Take copies and if the owner wants to take any of the paperwork, give her the copies, NOT the originals."I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0

The person who took the measurements is in the wrong, and no matter what they say they have cocked the job up, do not pay for alterations, as if they had made them to the proper measurements, they wouldnt need alterations.
You should tell them that you are not paying for extentions to the curtains, you want them made properly. With the correct measurements.
Did you pay for these in cash or credit card?0 -
My mum had made to measure curtains and the place came and measured up and they came back too short - luckily, there was enough of a hem so they could be let down - but they had to pay for the corrections as they had measured them.
definately agree with the others - this isn't your responsibility - if you had measured and gave them the wrong measurements, then it would be different but they measured up - it's their !!!! up0 -
Shop owner is being a bit cheeky, as mentioned they are fully liable0
