I am a bit ignorant about specs, that why i asked.

There was a time when just surfing the web and emailing was all i did - but now there's so many other things.

This laptop does struggle with web pages that have multiple moving adverts playing on them at the same time.

If you have Firefox then install AdBlock+ and you won't get the adverts.

if once you have settled on a budget post back and we should be able to advise better,, personally although more ram would help with day to day stuff i personally think it would be money down a toilet as you do really need a new system for anything more than basic browsing and email so you would be better putting the money towards a new system.
