have you tried doing an online quote with the same company? it sometimes works out cheaper that the renewal.

All dependant on the company as some have retention departments which may offer to match a cheaper quote or offer vouchers.

Car insurance prices are going up all the time..... You can trade price for extra excess or try some cashback sites such as Topcashback. Find the cheapest quote then look on the site and see if you can recover some cash back....... Some MSE' ers have saved a bundle
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!

They don't reduce the prices at the end of the day to try to get rid of the rest of the policies !

  • If you call at the end of the day, they might provide a better service, quicker and a bit cheaper.. As they havnt got lots of time to mess about on the phone.. If they get you on the phone that would like to renew with them.. i.e provide a better offer or even vouchers.. Otherwise you may go to one of their competitiors.

    Thats what i meant!
  • If I was on the receiving end of your call 10mins before I finish work, I would try to get u off the phone as soon as possible so that I can go home (that doesn't involve giving u a discount sorry).

Personally I would think if you called at the end of the day they would want to get you off the phone so they could go home.
I wouldn't want them to rush a quote and possibly record my info wrongly or miss it out altogether.
Same goes for the incentives you mention. They possibly couldn't be bothered to see a manager about a discount because times ticking and they want to get home.

    Nope.

I discovered last year it's about 10-7 days before your old policy is up.

Luckily as long as you get the reference number the quote is saved for 30 days even if you get multiple quotes of the same company. (Tip - write down the reference number and the quote price somewhere in case their system goes wrong.)

This is because you still have plenty of time to shop around.

There as if your policy is up within 12 hours they know you have to accept one of the quotes given.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

Yup - every year my renewal is 15% more than the online price. Standard ploy to catch out the lazy it seems. In the past I've just called them and so long as you have the quote reference they will match it (done this with eSure and MoreThan - tried the latter earlier as it's renewal time again, but their phones are busy).
