Fed up with cold calls

This morning I received two cold calls, one asking who supplies my energy, and one from a claims management company (Indian) saying that someone at my address had been involved in an accident. Yesterday I had a call from someone asking if I had Sky TV. All received the "slam down" treatment. I was particularly angry with the "accident" call. What if someone reallly believed it, it could give them heart failure! Appart from registering with the TPS, is there any way of getting shot of these stressful calls?

What do you mean "Apart from registering with the TPS"?? By registering with the TPS, you should pretty much only get calls from your own bank or energy suppliers etc.

Well TPS doesn't guarantee you wont get them, and I find despite telling companies to stop calling they still do. The only effective way I found that so far since March 2010 is 100% success is getting a device called Truecall, it also records messages as a answer machine

You can also use it to record conversations at extra cost which included software and SD card. Cost £85-£90 but it does work, it integrates callers and or stops silent calls 100%

But they don't leave messages. I often see the calls on my answer machine as "International" or "Withheld" but there's no message. They only speak when I pick up.

As am I, but I believe it allows me to be really rude to them without feeling guilty afterwards.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

When did you register with TPS? It takes a month or so to stop the calls. If they are still calling you after this time, get their company name and report them.

I am registered with TPS and don't really get the calls anymore. Although, the odd one that does slip through the cracks I always threaten them with TPS (which usually does the trick) and then report them.
  • the calls you are mentioning are mostly originating from these people

    http://www.callcentersindia.com/call_center_forum.php

Crooks are using Indian call centres. The same crooks can be seen touting for 'business' on Romanian and Filipino call centres.

and no the TPS most certainly will not work with these people

    From TPS site:
The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is a free service. It is the official central opt out register on which you can record your preference not to receive unsolicited sales or marketing calls. It is a legal requirement that all organisations (including charities, voluntary organisations and political parties) do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS unless they have your consent to do so.

I received a "someone who lives in your household has had an accident call" a few works ago.
Yes i said unfortunately they were killed. But they are very keen on claiming compfensation for their fatal accident. Would you like to speak to them... ?

"Oh errrr , no thanks. Have a very good evening." Bye

    Bye

  • I registered with TPS (2 years ago) and still get about one call a week, often asking for the previous occupant by name.

I ask them to remove the number from their list. Not sure if this works as they all sound like Indian call centres and I don't ask for the name of the company. I just want to get rid of them.
