Sold a laptop on ebay last week, it's a broken one, doesnt' turn on.
Anyway, it's got my hard drive in it...I should format that first right? Is there anyway to do it without actually removing the hard drive? I can't get to it just now cause I dont have the right screwdriver, but need to send out the laptop tomorrow

No. Unless you have access to a jumbo electro-magnet0 -
A bit late in the day especially if you have to send it to the buyer tommorow.
What was your auction description for the laptop?0 -
It isn't your h/drive any more.0

you need to not only format but also OVERWRITE the sectors to prevent your data being trivially recoverable. You'll need a working PC to hook it up to to do this.0 -
You''ll need a cross-point screwdriver to undo the hard drive access cover, that is all. Hardly an elusive tool.
But if you sold it described as with an OS installed on it and a valid licence key, then the buyer is going to be one unhappy bunny. No free lunch, and no free laptop
