Sold a laptop on ebay last week, it's a broken one, doesnt' turn on.

Anyway, it's got my hard drive in it...I should format that first right? Is there anyway to do it without actually removing the hard drive? I can't get to it just now cause I dont have the right screwdriver, but need to send out the laptop tomorrow

No. Unless you have access to a jumbo electro-magnet

A bit late in the day especially if you have to send it to the buyer tommorow.

What was your auction description for the laptop?

you need to not only format but also OVERWRITE the sectors to prevent your data being trivially recoverable. You'll need a working PC to hook it up to to do this.

You''ll need a cross-point screwdriver to undo the hard drive access cover, that is all. Hardly an elusive tool.
But if you sold it described as with an OS installed on it and a valid licence key, then the buyer is going to be one unhappy bunny.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
