You seemed to be complaining that you couldn't do 30mph in them. I was simply saying why would you want to, let alone 20mph. :)

Thanks for explaining, I thought what I posted was easy enough to understand as well.

  • I got caught out by a blizzard yesterday, there were a number of vehicles stuck on a hill one of which was an ambulance.

They couldn't move forward but just slid sideways.

I was somewhat surprised to see a crew member jump out and fit some snow socks to the front wheels (FWD obviously ). After a few seconds they were able to pull away and get to the top of the hill.

My autosocks got their maiden outing yesterday too. I've no idea how they work, but work they do, and I was able to get up a hill that a lot of cars got into trouble on. Gives me a bit more confidence if I'm caught out in a blizzard again.

I have autosocks in my boot too. I bought them as an "I'm a numpty get me out of here" emergency aid. Hopefully I will never need to use them.

There is a video on here which may be of interest > http://www.autosock.co.uk/

Years ago I had a set of Spikes Spider fitted to my Golf. It was a faff having to spend an hour fitting the hubs onto the wheels at the start of the season, but a cinch to fit the Spike Spiders when you needed to move off.
