For some reason I am having trouble playing black ops,MW2 and COD4 online.constantly getting connection interruption.
Ran xbox live test and that said try resetting router NAT strict?
Done a reset live test now ok but still in playable online.
My broadband is BT total option 1 speed 1.1meg ping was showing around 70ms.I know people who have no issues with 1.0 meg so don't think it is speed related.
Anyone able to offer some advice on likely cause and maybe a solution?

maybe a fire wall on your router or its not portforwarding correctly
i used to get nat problems with connecting my xbox to my laptop to allow it to use the wireless in the laptop
if you are connecting it to a laptop try briding the ethernet and wireless connections that normally solves it.
i have 1mb connection but my isp throttle it back in the evening to thrid speed and my ping goes to about 180ms so yours should be alright at 70ms0 -

sorry excuse my numptyness on techy things but not sure what you mean by connecting to laptop?
i am currently connecting wireless direct to router and also how would i know if port forwarding or firewall settings are the cause,is there a way i can easily check these things?0 -
WELL IGNORE THE STUFF I WAS SAYING ABOUT LAPTOPS ETC IF YOU have the wireless adaptor on your xbox then this wont be the problem
next time you see the xbox saying you have a NAT issue try and plug it directly into your router then see if its still there.
if it is i suspect its BT being annoying like many ISP's are. They cut people data speed on certain types of data. The monitor what your data is and slow it down accordingly to make it fairer for your neighbours. I have never heard of xbox live being classed as heavy use tho.
bt and virgin and others throttle back speeds on downloading web pages, downloading via torrents and P2p, I-player, your tube etc etc all at different speeds0 -
Hi there.
If you google "portforward.com xbox live" you will find the "portforward.com" website which provides pretty detailed information on setting up many different routers up for XBox live.
I did this on my Netgear a while back and it certainly made a difference.
It's not certain that it will resolve your problems but it should reduce your ping which is all important for online gaming.

it's your BT Home Hub that's the problem if you have a Strict NAT issue . resetting your hub works on the older models until the Router updates itself , then it will block Xbox live from from sending info to your Xbox
very easy to sort . just need to forward a port through the routers firewall for Xbox live to talk to your Xbox . you are only allowing Xbox live to talk to the Xbox , your computer and other wireless devices are still fully protected by the router Firewall .
find your Router here
http://portforward.com/
click it and skip past the advert .
then just look up a Xbox 360 game you have from the list .( Try Modern Warfare 2) . follow step by step instructions . job done .
all of my Xbox 360 games need the same port forwarding , so you only have do it once for your Xbox and your Xbox live should now be open permanently .
If you find issues around 5pm with your speed slowing down , thats normal as well i'm afraid . does on my connection regular as clockwork . annoying as hell when your Pave low is chewing up the other team on MW2Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
thanks for all the replies i will try the suggestions and see how it goes.0

do you have a BT Home Hub ? and which type ? please post
if so try this

if you are having problems connecting then yes Hardwire it in . wireless connection problems might have something to do with a neighbour using the same Wi-fi channel as you ( they might be using a Homehub with it's out the box settings as well ) . try changing it . sorry i use a Apple but someone on the the techie thread will tell you a good Wi-Fi Scanner program for Windows , that will show you what channels your neighbours are using . then set your Homehub on a channel well away from them .channel 9 works well for me
bookmark the above link for future reference
. it's important to know how to access your router settings . make sure you change your router admin password to something people cannot guess . change it again when you are Hardwired in . make it strong but not too long . i think the admin password has a 15 charater limit .
i also assume you are probably running your homehub with it's out the Box WEP setting . these can easily be cracked . i advise you change it to at least WPA with a strong password . don't worry about your Xbox at this point , setting Xbox up for a new wireless key ect is easy , after you have your homehub in order
Also are leaving your Homehub powered on all the time ? . if you keep turing it off or master resetting it then it will automatically slow your connection speed down to a crawl , cause it assumes it is going too fast because it keeps losing it's link to the exchange . leave it alone after you have done the set up and it will be up to full speed within a few days .Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -

2.0 should not need a password to see basic info on router page , but will need it when accessing settings .
also Homehub 2.0 does 802.11n grade wireless with WPA2 security. pretty much the best you can get in both departments . your not using the best settings if you aren't on them . true some older laptops ect may not be able to get 802.11n but your Xbox does .Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0
