I've been a long lurker and admirer of these forums but this is the first time I have actually posted! So here it goes..

I got a PCN a couple of months back which was down to my own stupid fault, I was parked in a pay and display area and hadn't paid because I'd assumed that it was free on a Sunday although it wasn't.
On my ticket the reason for the offence was slightly mis printed, the printing was overlapping and some lines were cut off the edge of the paper slightly.
I appealed saying that the PCN is invalid due to not displaying a legible reason for the offence. I was asked to send in the original PCN so they could see for themselves. Unfortunately I have now received a letter saying that my appeal was unsuccessful and now have a further 14days to pay the half cost.
My question is whether I have a case either to carry on pursuing my original claim that the PCN did not contain a reason for the offence, or maybe pursue the fact that they had me send them the original PCN and it is no longer in my possession.
I am tempted to just bit the bullet and pay the half price of £60 but I'd be interested to see what you guys have to say first.

Apparently new members can not post URLs, I was going to post a link to my PCN so you can see the mis typing for yourselves. I will do so as soon as the forum allows me to.
Thanks in advance for any replys!

First big question. Was this a council or private ticket?
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Go to the Parking & Decriminalised Parking Forum on PePiPoo (Click Here) and be prepared to post scanned-in and depersonalised copies of your PCN. You will get detailed advice on your situation and how to deal with it.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com

The back of the PCN with the small-print is just as important, often more important.

Nothing obviously wrong with the front, the overtyping doesn't seem to make it illegible.

Also while you are waiting for replies on pepipoo you could email the Council on Monday and ask for the Traffic Order (Parking Places Order) which relates to that street or car park. So as not to have the request confused with an appeal, do not mention the PCN number, you don't even have to give your details as you are entitled to see public documents.

The hope would be that the Order is flawed, not updated, etc. Pepipoo will be able to tell.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Also do not tell them its a request under Freedom of Information, it will take longer, possibly too long to be of help.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • Hi there,

We were on a shirt trip to London over the weekend.

We hired a car and unfortunely parked in a 'Residents Parking Area' in Camden for about 20 mins, and came back to fine a PCN on the car... for £120 or £60 if paid within 14 days.

The odd thing is that the PCN states the car Reg as KV60 **U while the Reg Plate is actually KV60 **N.

The ticket also notes the Tax Disc No.

Why is the Reg No. different by that last single letter ? and I presume I should discuss thia with the Hire Co. ?

    Thanks in advance ?

    Tom
