I only tip around about December (very generously to make up for the rest of the year)for a good reason. In December i give it as a 'personal present' to my hairdresser who I have know for decades and its therefore not included in the tips.I understand that the tax people look very closely at their regular tips during the year and this wayshe gets to keep it all. Have considered M & S vouchers also.
  • Personally I don't tip because I don't see why I should. I've paid for my hair to be washed and cut and that's that.

If you start tipping where do you stop, do you tip your taxi driver and then the receptionist at the dentist and doctors and what about the lollipop man/lady - they don't get paid that well either!

I go to a large salon and it's hard to keep track of who does what! I usually give the stylist a fiver or so, although that is done at the till, but never thought about the shampoo girls.
  • I nearly always trip at my salon ! It's about time they got rid of that old doormat !!!!!:rotfl:

  • Hey the young ladies at my salon are lovely.........We always get a cup of tea & biscuit. As the other poster said it's a bit like "Cheers" I even do the sweeping up afterwards ! Last Xmas they gave my Wife and I a present each !

I only wish I had more hair so I could go a little more often.

I don't tip anyone, if you don't get paid enough get another job or put your prices up.

Last time I went ot he hairdresser I got charged £28 for a cut and blow dry, the thing is its only £21 for medium hair, she put my long hair in a pony tail chopped it once made it medium then styled it and charged me for long, I havent been back.
  • I cut my own hair - and give myself a generous tip!

  • I get my hair cut and coloured, which is usually over £100, which I hate but what are you gonna do? I always tip, but how about this scenario? What about when for whatever reason they have to switch stylists? There have been times that, because of my fault or theirs, I have one stylist for awhile then they have to switch to another. Should I split the tip if its my fault and just tip the last person if its theirs?

I find this difficult. I have my hair washed and cut, never blow dryed unless it's a special occasion - and for this I pay about £13. It's not a complex cut, and generally takes less than half an hour from me walking in the door to walking out again.

My husband has his hair cut (not washed) and it costs him about £5. Now I think both stylists are doing the same thing, but because I'm a woman it costs more - substantially more.

One day I'm going to claim for sex discrimination on this one!!

Though after saying that, I generally tip a pound or two as well....
