I'm halfway through my iPhone 24 month contract of £35 per month. Can I downgrade to the £30 a month contract now?

    I don't know.

    What does your contract say?
  • Yep, I have done this before.

Just ring them up and tell them you can no longer afford the monthly payments at £35. Because you're locked into a contract, they don't HAVE to cut your repayments. But they will most likely offer to cut it by £5 if you allow them to slash some of your minutes, for example if you get 900 mins they will most likely cut your minutes to 600 or something. But you will save yourself £5. Usually after a few months have passed you can cut it down by another £5. My girlfriend who was on a £30 a month contract managed to reduce it to £20 because she didn't need all her minutes so didn't care when they kept cutting them down!

    So yes, it is possible.

(However, on second thoughts, and I'm not sure how true this is but I do believe Apple set the tariffs on iPhone for each network provider so they can't be changed. But it's worth a try! Just tell them you are struggling to make the payments and wonder if they can cut your minutes).

Correct about Apple, but they may let you move to a lower iPhone tarrif, ie form the £5 PCM one to the £30 PCM one. However it is at Oranges discression. Remember you paid less for the phone as you were paying £35 PCM as opposed to £30.

You also need to know that not only will your minutes / texts decrease as you go to the new plan so will your internet allwance so if you have unlimited now it will go to the 500MB that the £30 plan offers
  • I believe you can drop it by one plan, half way through your contract. However, you can only choose from the tariffs available at the point you signed up, not the new ones.
