just had baby, moving in with g/f, entitlements

it amazes me that living together is seen as a 'commitment' that many arent prepared to make. but having a baby is!
god help the children of these people, when they realise they come second to an extra few quid.0 -

I personally think that most of these people are actually already living together and their question on boards such as this is more along the lines of "what benefits would we be entitled to if we declare that we are living together as a couple.
Having a child raised by mum and dad living together as a family should be the main decider !!! Not , will we be any worse off financially !
This is what annoys me as well, it seems that many peoples lives are being mapped out, according to how much money can be grabbed in benefits. If they loved each other, and had a baby, it should be that they do move in together, and brought the child up. But the amount of people that prefer to have two people living as singles, because they get 20/30 pound a week extra is ridiculous.
Same as the OP that started this posting, he is on 30K, yet he doesn't want to share this with his girlfriend, and new born child, all he wants is his cake and eat it, by making sure that his girlfriend wont lose out on the money she is claiming in benefits. It is totally sickening.
Even Mothers on finding there daughters are pregnant come on asking how much her daughter can claim, how much housing benefit, how much income support, where can she get furniture from? My first reaction on finding my daughter is pregnant ( not that I have a daughter) would be to help her through it, even changing bedrooms if hers wasn't big enough to put a cot in, what has happened to this world, it wasn't that long ago that people were ashamed to admit they were on benefits, now its grab, grab, grab, and give nothing back.0 -
Surely this kind of stuff should be checked out though too see if it is affordable? I mean it is different if you purposely live apart just to get more money obviously but shouldn't this sort of thing be enquired about?0
-
If I read correctly he is on £25k, would live rent free, will get CTC so why ask for benefits? Surely it's better to bring up a child where there are family values? I guess my way of thinking is different.0
-
Oh 25k?! In that case not sure why you would need all the other top ups really? That is quite a good wage well compared to some anyway!0

Well it appears the OP has defied the both the laws of time and nature.
Was a 24 year male a year ago, then got pregnant at 29 this June and now?Just in case you were wondering (some have)..... I'm a woman!0 -

i have just looked into the government boiler grants and apparently im not entitled to it although i am pregnant but it seems i will be entitled once i have had a baby which just seems daft.
i am 29,single, self employed and own my own home. the site says you are entitled to the grant if you are pregant and recieve either:
income support
council tax benefit
jsa
pension credit
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
i dont think that i get any of these, the one thing i do get is working tax credit but it says you are also entitled to it if you get working family tax credit which a think i will be entitled to once the baby arrives. my house is freezing in the winter when the baby is due and i want a boiler before that, is there anything i can do to be entitled???The loopy one has gone :j0 -
didnt realise this thread would cause such a fuss. to make matters a little clearer i will be moving in with the g/f regardless of benefits, although i did pose the question of how much she was entitled to on her own,but what of it? that certainly doesnt mean we planned to go down that route, is that ok with you loopygirl??? and the reason it was in a seperate post was my initial post did not appear so i posed the question twice more before it appeared. ppl on this site seem very quick to judge, they are also fairly nosey, the reason i posted a question as a 29yr old female ages ago was because it was my g/f using the account to post a question.0

[the reason i posted a questionit was my g/f using the account to post a question.
Still you cant decide:rotfl:The loopy one has gone :j0
