Thanks for the explanation. Sky is not free, right? So, to get access to this 'shopping channel' in the first place you pay a subscription?

And this is someone who can't afford basic home repairs, maintenance, prefers to live in a damp house with rotten windows? Someone's priorities are waaaay out of line.

QVC is not only on Sky. It is also available without subscription on Freeview/Freesat.

Why should the taxpayer finance her windows, doors and decoration when she spends all her money on bingo, the lottery and TV shopping channels?

Have I missed something here. How do you know how she spends her money? How do you know she even has a telly? Please tell me where her telly watching habits have come to the public forum to be discussed by everyone!!!

I have to apologise for my last post. It was written not in defence but curiosity. I get it now.

She paid a one of £20 for a sky viewing card. Believe me I have tried to get her to stop wasting money but it's impossible. She says she can't afford to put the heating on. I tried telling her that if she stopped wasting money she would be warm and not have a rotting damp house.
She gets wood free from a buider up the road and expects all her children to cut it up for her.
She wanted us all to pay a contribution to her late hubbies headstone but we refused.
I've also told her about the social tarriff with british gas and to go on a water meter but she won't have it, the same as she rings out on her mobile phone when she pays for BT it's ludicrous.

I did have a look at QVC on my freeview - never thought to look for it before. Just watching repeated 'hard sell' and none of it interested me anyway.

Age UK have a handiman & his handivan that do all sorts of repair work FOC. You will hav eto find the windows and doors, but they will be fited for free.

Have a look at the main DIY stores, they have some really good bargains.
I bought an exterior door frame and door for under £30.
No plastic windows, but plenty of reasonable wooden ones.
Have you tried chatting up your local UPV window and door manufacturers. You would be surprised what they will do for a bit of charitable help.

Yes Hobble I thoroughly endorse your recommendation. Age UK came round here about two years ago, guided me thru medical and other benefits, arranged for a handyman to do several jobs and they still keep in touch.
