Hit by unisured driver :( gutted
on friday night i was hit by a van very hard at the rear, i got out to exchange details but he drove off very fast, luckly i had a witness in the street. after i reported to police i found the van in the next road and the bloke was outside, he denied it was his van until i phoned police again and he confessed. anyway after reporting to insurance they cant trace any insurance for his van, so now my hire car is in doubt which is a nightmare because i have to drive the kids into school every day, is there any advice or loopholes someone can tell me so my insurance company will give me a car??

If your policy includes a hire car if yours is OTR after an accident, then appeal their decision (as this should be given to you irrespective of fault/the third party being insured or not etc).
But if this is not included in your policy then there is no way you can get one out of your insurer.0 -
You don't have to take your car for repair to the place your insurance company choose (although they may ask for quotes). Can you find a body repair shop (or main dealer) that will give you a courtesy car while yours is in for repair? I know the manufacturers of my car offer a free 'accident management service' including courtesy car as it is a way of getting very profitable insurance work.0

The OP is asking about getting a "hire car" immediately, not a "courtesy car" whilst the car is in for repair.0

No, the OP is asking how they can have a replacement car for no cost while their car is off the road - normally after an accident a hire car paid for by insurance, but because the other driver was uninsured, this is in doubt. I have suggested an alternative means by which they can get a car.

I don't think their insurer will be willing to pay the costs of an accident management service when they're having to pay it all themselves because the third party was uninsured......
I'd never recommend one either, because credit hire can get messy.0 -
Won't do the kids any harm to walk to school will it?0

It is a good idea, keep the kids and yourself fit and all that! However the OP has not said how far she has to take the kids. They would have to leave pretty early if they lived 15 miles from the school!;)
Maybe the OP is one of the odd few that live that far away and has no access to public transport. I would bet that most kids that need taking to school will live within 20 minutes walk. Catchment areas tend not to be that large for primary schools these days.0 -
Perhaps it's up to the OP how they live their life and whether or not they walk/drive/jog/cycle/crawl over broken glass to get their kids to school.0
