It has taught me how unbelivably selfish people are. It had only started snowing 5 minutes and the whole world and their dog had rushed to the supermarket to strip the shelves of bread and milk.
I saw people with 10 loaves in their trollies. Queues were halfway down the aisles. There are other things to eat apart from bread!
Not a thought for the people who might want bread later.
In my defence I was there not panic buying but because it was Friday afternoon and I always but always do my food shopping on a Friday afternoon. Snow or no snow!
It has also taught me not to go sledging on an coal slag heap when there hasn't been quite enough snow to cover the rocks. It's been over a week and the bruise on my bum is still 5 inches wide :rotfl:0 -
It's taught me to maybe thinking I am psychic, I booked last thurs, fri and today off work to use up my annual leave. Been out a couple of times, actually went into a hairdressers on Thurs to see if they had had a lot of cancellations, and they had :T got my hair cut there and then.
Its also taught me to keep a loaf in the freezer, we don't eat much bread, but when there is none there, you want bread!
That to wear my hat out, even though it gives me flat head, being warmer is better than looking great lol
Think I have read up on here well, so have had plently of storecupboard stuff, plenty of frozen soup in the freezer (and another pot brewing as we speak, just incase)
Had a power cut here this morning, but had already filled a flask so as not to keep boiling kettle.
Things I need to do.... new wellies, think mine are letting in water, only a bit, but can't be doing with wet feet. More candles, incase lecky goes off again. Bread in freezer or bread flour, make sure herbs and spices are stocked up as any mish mash meal tastes better for a bit of seasoning.whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

If it's any consolation I hurt my ribs 'having a go' of the kids sledge in front of the wife and my dad....:D
In all fairness to my wife, she bit her tongue for days, when I knew she wanted to unleash a tidal wave of sarcasm, and mockery from her lips...:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:😇 Sealed Pot Challenge: Member No: 20: 2012 = £92.14; 2013 = £45.27; 2014 = £54.70; 2015 = ; 2016 = £70.38 2022 = £10.58 2023 = ???? 🍀 2023 DECLUTTERING CAMPAIGN Mrs SD 65/365 so far. 👾 The Other Way, or the MSE Way: My Personal Challenge 🍀 The Other Way, or the MSE Way: My Personal Challenge 20120 -
I've learned that we were absolutely right to put up that expensive insulation after dealing with the damp walls, that the decision to buy the Clearview logburner was the right one and that blinds and heavy curtains are worth their weight in gold.
Admittedly, there has only been OH and me here during the cold snap and our bedroom is above the living room, but we have been toasty warm with just the logburner, no central heating needed.
However, I've also learned that, for next winter, we need to be thoroughly organized with plenty of seasoned logs and find a better way to keep them dry.Avoiding plastic, palm oil, UPF and Nestlé0 -
and that next year no matter what i am saving up to clear off somewhere hot. for a week to make sure i insulate the chimney and line curtains batch cook stock up on foods and fuel as this has helped us alot this year to keep warmer .to look out for my neighbours and make sure they are ok.;)0

It would be interesting to see what you have all learned......
If you have toddler, twin boys, make sure you have plenty to occupy them & remove all furniture that they can physically lift, to prevent them from using it as step-ladders to climb over stairgates, or to reach light switches that are not screwed in properly.
I also learned that even in the worst snow, you'll find a way to get them to nursery, even to the nursery staffs dismay (they all want to knock off early in the snow!) and you'll blumming well leave them there to the last minute before nursery closes (at a stupidly early time as they all want to leave flipping early! ) AND you then regret only working 2 days a week and wish it was 5 days so you can still put them in nursery for 5 days and then you can walk home in the snow and go back to bed :T0 -
I live in a city so wasnt exactly snowed in.
However, I think having a thermos flask was wonderful. Having good waterproof hiking boots, 2 pairs of socks, layers of clothes.
After hearing on the news that people were fighting over bread & milk in the supermarket, knowing that I had a stocked up storecupboard (to make my own bread) & freezer. I might think about getting powdered milk, but then I dont drink milky tea anyway & it would just be for OH coffee.
I am looking at moving out of the city & need to seriously relook at my preparations for winter though.0 -
I have learned that a car battery can go from absolutely fine to stone dead flat over a weekend when the temps are below zero all weekend. Grrrrrr!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0

That it is hard work getting DS to school, look after mum and dig ourself out, then collect DS from school after he has been there 3 hours!
That my dog loves snow and will not stop either barking or licking it.
That its easy to occupy kids in the snow. He built an igloo with his dad, had a snowball fight and went sledging which filled most days. The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T0 -
It has taught me that I don't like the cold nor the snow and next November I will hibernate until the following spring,0
