Try right clicking and running as administrator

A repair 'shouldnt' remove files and folders. But if your xp is broken as it appears to be, anythings possible

Depends how fast you are. Just make sure the disc is in the drive when it needs to read it (before the operating system starts to load)

Chances are youll need to go into bios first and select the cd/dvd player as 1st boot device

got stuck in the snow for 5 hours yesterday,so this is the first chance i had to get back on pc...
what ive noticed aswell is when i turn off pc it shuts down for about 1 second then reboots its not switching off.
also i think its running as administrator,
i went into control panel/user accounts and my account was not there only ADMIN,COMPUTER ADMINISTRATOR,or GUEST,
could running as administrator be the cause of the problem?

So you had an account but its no longer there?
How come you have 4 accounts anyways?

  • sorry no there was only 2 accounts..ADMIN,COMPUTER ADMINISTRATOR=1 account,+guest=2.
i was getting confussed i only got this pc a few weeks ago(second hand)+i was fixing my old pc at the same time and getting mixed up.
i dont think its anything to do with the user accounts, but i have noticed that when i switch pc off it only goes off for a second then reboots itself.
also im waiting for my brother to give me back my xp disc so i cant try the repair just yet.

Well youve got to use the admin account to be able to run things properly

If youve only had it a few weeks id recommend backing up whatever you want to keep (Cant see there being too much in that time), reformat and reinstall windows
