Debenhams Credit card and Customer service

Hi has anyone else "endured" the appalling customer service that Debenhams credit card customer service offer? I contacted them to cancel my credit card after noticing in the Terms and Cond. that they charge a dormant account fee. When I finally got through after going through some ridiculous security questions they said I had failed and to try ringing again.

Anyway, I am writing to them to do this now but can I charge them for issuing a letter just to rub it in?

Thanks

I know its just as a rediculous you not able to answer the security questions that you have previous advised the credit card company of.

This is for your own protection.

Next time, give your mum a shout to find out her maiden name before ringing up.

I agree their customer service is useless.

I went to use my card for petrol and it was declined.Turns out they had rung me about a transaction and left a message to which they said I did not reply. After a protracted conversation with them and despite telling them I had had no such message to which they insisted I had, I asked them what number they had rung and it was a completely different one to mine not even close.

Incidentally, I spent ages on the phone to them at the petrol station they asked for all my security details which I gave them and then at the end of it all said I would have to ring the 'fraud' department on the monday as they were not open over the weekend!

They also wanted to charge me for a duplicate statement that I never received from them.
  • I called them the other day to close my account since I didn't want it anyway, and the lady confirmed to me my account is now closed. I always have a feeling that what if it hasn't really closed.

If I were you I would email them as well to confirm your conversation.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Good luck - I had to make three calls plus lodge a complaint to get them to write to me to confirm closure. Now they haven't updated the CRAs and still show a balance (which I paid off months ago and within a month of the purchase) as still outstanding. This is going to be a pain, I just know it'll run and run.

Every time I called to close the account they kept insisting I set up a password even after they heard why I was calling - why, I asked, I want to leave so won't be calling again.....they said they had to ask everyone . Their call centre is the worst I have ever encountered - they can only understand the most basic of queries and just keep repeating stock answers; very frustrating.

Tell them you want to have <insert something obscene here> as your password.

Santander administer the Debenhams card and have a terrible reputation. Phone number is an 0870 and at 10p a minute from a landline they will prolong the call as I am sure Santander get a cut of this.
