ecar insurance .............!!!

I took out insurance on my car (online, never used ecar before) with ecar, paid around £258.00 up front, fully comp' Whilst filling in all my details on line, I came to the part where it asked if I had made a claim in the past 3 years, to which I ticked yes. Then it went on to, have you been to cause of an accident within the past, so and so years, to which I ticked no.
Came to the NCB part, drop down box (I have 3 years NCB btw) but there was no option to put 3 years, only five. I was also asked to give policy number and name of previous insurer so that my NCB could be validated. Which I did.

My insurance began on 17th Nov' and then of course they sent me a letter asking for proof of NCB also a copy of drivers licence, to be sent by recorded mail. This was mailed on 24th November. I have had numerous emails from ecar saying they have not received documents! Finally after about a week, they emailed me saying they have received them.

They are now asking for a futher payment of £106:39 because they are saying I failed to disclose that I had been in an accident, which I haven't. My daughter drove my car one evening and unfortunately side-swiped a stationary car:(

I have contacted a couple other insurance companies and asked them if this was correct, that given I wasn't in the car nor driving it, should this cause me to be charged and extra £100 odd pounds. Both companies have said, NO, this will not effect your policy.

This morning I received yet another email from ecar saying that due to them not receiving the documents asked for, my policy will be cancelled within 7 days and a cancellation fee will be charged! Needless to say I sent the email back to them along with a copy of an email they sent me 6 days ago, verifying that they HAD received all my documents!

  • When I read things like this about Ecar Insurance my heart sinks. I recently payed upfront for my renewal due to start on 17th December but decided that I was not going to renew with ECAR after reading the terrible reviews online.

So far the process has been smooth with the email contact being prompt and clear. However, I've sent my Insurance documents back by Special delivery which according to Royal Mail was delivered yesterday. This has all been done within the 14 day cooling off period and before the renewal takes affect. I should therefore get a full refund within the next 30 days according to their terms and conditions.

I suppose I will have to wait and see what happens but so far the website status of my policy says that a renewal is pending so no changes can be made untill it starts, even though I have written to them and cancelled the renewal.

    Watch this space! :(

If you sent correspondence by a signed for delivery method then ecar will be very careful because they know that the onus will then be placed on them to prove that their administrative processes are up to scratch.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

I mailed all documents on 24th November, it took them over 1 week to tell me they had received them and then this morning, as I mentioned, I receive another email stating they are still awaiting proof of my NCB!
This now makes me wonder if this is a trait of theirs to push people over the 14 days cooling off period.

I tried cancelling my policy online, however, it won't allow me as it's saying, still awaiting proof of NCB, so of course this is causing further delays!

It seems that this incident has gone down on the database as a claim off your policy. If this is the case, then you should have declared it when asked about claims when completing your details prior to taking out the policy, and they were correct to revise their premium when this non disclosure was discovered.

Yes, I did declare it, I was asked online if I have ever made a claim, to which I said, Yes, it then went on to ask, 'Have you been involved in an accident within the past x amount of years, to which I answered no.
