When you receive an award letter doesn't it say this is the amount the law says you are required to live on,or similar.0

She is already moved into the flat.
Do people find a flat, pay the deposit themselves and the first months rent upfront out of their own pockets and THEN apply for housing benefit?
Or do you contact the housing benefit people and they find you a council flat (i thought this took years?)
She's already been living there for a month.
I persume then that the governemt didn't pay for her first months rent. Are you saying that she is only entitled to a bedsit or a 'flat share' and that she wont recieve anything for her rent for the flat anyway?0 -
The truth is that she isn't working and can't afford to support herself. The country (ie. tax payers) can't afford to support her either. My 'children', both single, in their twenties and working full-time, would love to have their own places. They can't afford it, so are still living at home and saving.0

The reason she moved out is because we have no room for her, let alone a baby aswell. And if she gave up her house today and came back here she would still have to pay the rent for the next six months so its a no win situation from that point of view.0

I think whats being referred to is the amount of rent or LHA she would be entitled to. We spoke to the housing people and she is entitled to single persons LHA untill april when the baby comes and then the rate would change. I am paying the difference in amounts untill then, which is another reason that paying for gas, elec ect is not really possible.0

she would get the £25 pw 'hardship payment' and she should apply every week for a crisis loan. £17 seems low and therefore she would need to tell them she has no money for gas/electricity and food, she should get at least £25 crisis loan as well. She should also appeal her sanction - she should look at her job seekers agreement to see if the job was suitable for her in the first place, in line with that agreement and base her appeal on that.
Best of luck - the Job centre is not there to help i'm afraid, they seem to spend their time trying to catch people out. I tell my clients NEVER to accept a job printout from the advisor and to instead say to advisor that they will print it out themselves from the job point - this way it cannot be marked in the system and they cannot check up on it. A little late for your daughter but something she should bare in mind in future.0 -
Surely she lived at home until very recently anyway given her age so why is there suddenly no room for her.
How did she expect to support herself, a child and a house if not working? Moving into a house with no income was a foolish move. How does she plan to support the child?0 -

Get down to the CAB, and ask their advice!!! You're right with what you are saying... who will employ someone 18weeks plus pregnant...?? she may be entitled to maternity allowance if she has worked 13weeks or more in the last 66weeks within a qualifying period, or she will qualify for the sure start maternity grant!!! I am not to sure what weeks she has to be in her pregnancy to apply for these, but she can also talk too her midwife, who should be able to shed more light on the subject.... has she applied for her healthy eating grant yet??? though i think thats week 25 she can apply for that, but again, speak to her midwife who can tell more!! Go on to directgov website, aswell, as they can tell you what, as a pregnant woman, she is entitled too!!
Good luck with it all.... x0
