PDA phone...

hi could anyone recommend a good PDA phone that is not going to cost a fortune. I am currently on Orange and spending £30 a month. I would prefer to stay with orange, O2 or even Vodaphone.

Any suggestions would be great.

  • Hi Jim ,
you asked if anybody could recommend a good PDA phone , all i can recommend is that you DO NOT have a Motorola A1000 PDA phone i had no end of problems with this handset on the 3 network.

Hope this helps you in your elimination process of handsets to look at.

    Richard.

  • Well I had a Treo 600 for over a year excellent PDA/Phone, but the screen was only 160x160 and quite small for satnav.

Upgraded to an O2 XDA IIs excellent for satnav with a big screen, but a bigger screen makes a bigger phone and Windows Mobile isn't as easy to use without a stylus as Palm OS.

I can recommend Treo 600 / 650 when it comes out in about 2 months, and the O2 XDA IIs aka Orange SPV M2000 aka TMobile MDA III, if you don't mind a larger device.
  • thanks for help so far. I think i may go for the orange m2000 or the sony 910i. ANyone had any experiences with either of these?
I really want good organiser that does everything!

Please post your views if you have used either of these.

P.s cheers thrifty-i was considering the a1000 so now that is firmly off my list.
  • also does anyone know if the m2000 has an mp3 player and what memory it comes with? What memory does it take?

    Thanks in advance
  • The Orange SPV M2000 is a branded HTC Blue Angel, exactly the same Hardware and most of the same software as the O2 XDA IIs and the T Mobile MDA III.

They all come preloaded with Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, which includes Windows Media Player 9 which you can play MP3's and Videos etc.

The internal memory is 128MB for files and programs and 44MB of Flash Memory backups and files.

They all accept a standard SD Card, I have a high speed 1Gb for Sat Nav Maps and a couple of DVD's.
  • many thanks matt.
Would you recommend the m2000 over the sony 910i?

Yes I would the sony is an excellent smartphone, but theres so much more software available for the windoows devices and the lastest ones like the m2000 are technically superior as well IMHO.

out of interest where can you get the free software for the m2000? do you download them etc? Would be interesting to know what i can get for each device. Do you know of a website that lists these? any help would be much appreciated...

The M2000 will run most PocketPC software written from 2000 onwards:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/pocketpc.mspx

Just a couple of examples, the software for the Sony p910i will be more limited as it runs the Symbian Operating System.
